Posted: 01:20 - 19 Dec 2007 Post subject: Heated Grips - Are they worth it? (Help me) |
 |
|
Yes, so its pretty damn cold now being december and all that. Its not my first winter, but im starting to get annoyed with cold hands. With all my 'winter' gear on im perfectly warm, but after around 30 mins my hands start to go numb and very cold. This occurs even with inner gloves on.
So, if I had heated grips I would be all set for hours of slidey winter fun. However, I have no experience of them at all so are they actually any good? And could anyone possibly recommend a set that would do the job without being too expensive?
Oh, one more thing If I may. Are they particularly hard to fit? Im not scared of taking my bike apart, but generally I dont know what im doing as I have little mechanical knowledge.
Any help would be cool (karma given )
Cheers. ____________________ Current: MT-10, Bandit, Grom, GPZ500

Rubish as they look muffs are worth fitting first, trouble with grips is you can turn them right up but you'll still have cold knuckles and burning hot palms.
Muffs block out the wind and extend the cold free period considerably.
At the moment i have both and its sorted it, i've had either or and alone they dont fix it, as it is i'd be set to go to siberia.. which is good cause it seems to be comeing to us.
Oxford do some grips that velcro over the top, these are what i'm useing now, if anything there too bloody hot, they can be fitted in 5minutes, just scotchlock them into your pilot light wires, lights off = no grip power.
Oh yeh, i'm still wearing my summer gloves in this lot. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Agreed,
I have the Hot hands (velco grips) and I prefer them to actual grips as they can easily be remove for when you do not want the extra thickness. I also have the oxford muffs.
Muffs FTW. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

Okay guys, thanks for the help.
I'll look into getting both me thinks. I have always thought the muffs look a little silly though . I suppose its worth it for warm hands . The Oxford Hot Hands seem like the best deal. Can just be ripped off for the summer. ____________________ Current: MT-10, Bandit, Grom, GPZ500

I'll get the grips first and see how it goes. It has to be better than nothing. Like I said, its annoying having only cold hands.

Maybe some heated gloves maybe an option.
A friend of mine has the oxford heated grips, but he cannot feel the heat coming through his winter gloves. wearing thinner gloves only heats his palms. He bought some heated gloves which he claims are fantastic.
Not sure which ones he bought, but think they run from the motorcycle battery.
Some links for some heated gloves, and glove liners.

BTW.. I have the factory bmw heated grips on my bike..and think they are brill...even with summer gloves in. ____________________ BMW R1200GS & Honda Fireblade 929RR

Heated grips are great - definately worth it. If you ride in heavy traffic your clutch-hand fingers will still get cold though. Muffs are also reat, and both together fantastic. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
