 |
|
well i spent today, trying to ride my zxr, after giving the bike a flick over i heard som fairly sinister sounds, so proceded to check the rad, which of course was frozen solid, along with all the pipes on the bike, and i beleive the internals of the engine,
so after finally clearing out the rad and all the pipes of ice and trying to get as much ice out of the pump as possible, i refilled with hot water, and started her,
she didnt make any clunks, which is always a good sign,
i proceded to start and run for about 5 mins untill the engine seemed hot, then switch off and let her cool down and repeated,
it seems to me water is moving, but my temp sensor is telling me otherwise, the most the water reached was 60'C and was just sitting there,
which just isnt right with the zxr, if you let her idle she'll soon zoom up and over the 100'C mark
so if you guys were to hazard a guess would you think,
buggered pump from inital start up,
still frozen internals, (bear in mind it hasnt been above -1'C all day)
never had this bothered with me oil and air cooled bikes funnily enough ____________________ the humans are dead

ok thats a bit of an exageration, but i can watch the temp rise (its digital and is in .1'c increments)
its been flushed lots of times, every month or so (i have to remove rad ect to get to the exhaust system, which i have modified recently)
i dunno, stupid bike, stupid weather, stupid me for not running a higher ratio of coolant,
oh well, these things are sent to try us ____________________ the humans are dead

if you put a coke can in the freezer it explodes violently
if you leave a fresh water - colled bike outside when its below freezing.... ____________________ killa wrote: Im an ass man myself |

Why on earth not!? Thats just a disaster waiting to happen then, you should always run a thermostat, there is no advantage what so ever from not running one. Your engine is just going to take ages to reach operating temp and will never maintain the correct operating temp.
Fit one!
Oh, and put in some anti-freeze too, that would have saved you a big ice problem. |
did you not read why???
i originally had a external thermostat housing and filler unit as one
but when i turned it into a fighter it just looked dumb,
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF1040Small.jpg
so i changed the rad to a bigger zx6r one which had the filler built in,
but alas no more thermostat.
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/DSCF0658Small.jpg
so that is why i run a inline reducer, effectivly slowing the water down to cool the water as its passed through the rad.
and has worked a treat,
and i do run antifreeze/coolant just obvisiously the ratio wasnt high enough and over the 8 days of sub zero temps in scotland while i have been over in germany have been enough to freeze he system solid.
if i had a faired bike i would have left everything as stock and im sure this still would have happened, not having a thermostat hasnt changed anything about the bike,
so before you think you know everything about the set up on a zxr realise we are all not plastic pocket rocket riders ____________________ the humans are dead
