My computer has two hard drives, but the smaller drive i have is not big enough to copy all of my files onto so that i can format my computer. I am thinking of formatting the computer by putting in a new partition first, am i then able to copy files from one partition to the other?

What? Confused Laughing

You can buy special software that'll allow you to create new partitions on the fly, but then you might as well buy a new big hard-drive (a USB external one).

buy - this involves money.

i just want to create a partitoin and install XP to it - as if formatting the computer. copy files from one parttion to the other and delete the original partition. can it be done? im not buying anything - i'd rather lose all of my files.

Swap your drives around, format the smaller one and put XP on that and keep the bigger one as your data drive (that also happens to have all the files you want to keep already on it).

using files takes much longer then, to move or open files because neither aer super high speed and the smaller one is quite a bit older so that isnt really an option either Sad

Ok, then if you want to monkey around trying to create new partitions on an already loaded disk you'll need to read this lot:

Good luck. Smile
