Hey fellas

I started my bike up and got the bike out of the garage on Friday when it suddenly died. I tried to start the bike straight away but there was nothing. I thought it might have been a fuse gone as the indicators, brakelight and main beam flasher still work. But I am getting no starter noises or headlight at all. Just nothing.

I have checked all the fuses, battery is charged up, there is no obvious kinks or damage to any cables (i have the tank and stuff off at the minute), and the right hand switch gear (which houses the starter button and the headlight switch) seems fine inside. All earth points are in a good clean condition.

Im stuck here, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Thumbs Up

I guess the best check is, is there any power to the starter switch ?

Start there and meter back.

Not the obivious, kill switch, or side stand switch.

What voltage do you get on the battery ?

Side stand switch can and does go on these.

Make sure you got ALL the fuses. I seem to recall seeing a variety of nippy micro-fuses outwith the boundries of the fuebox when I looked at my mates F650.

Probably. But motorcycle wiring is a highle erratic science. I couldn't tell you on a German bike. People do wierd things when they are designing looms.

On the face of it there isn't really anything that should deactivate both the starter AND the headlamp but nothing else. Apparently there is.

I had an Aprillia Pegaso 650,which did exactly the same, and its basically the same bike.Turned out to be the fuse holder-2 fused on the left hand side, under the seat. The fuses were fine, but the connector had corroded, and caused the same problems as yours.Worth a shot.Just switch on the ignition and lights, and give everything a wiggle and a twist.

Give the loom around the headstock a wiggle with the ignition on to see if anything happens. BMW have a tendency to develop an intermittent fault when one of the wires breaks in the sheath. Usually happens with the 1150's but not unknown on other BM's.

If it it its a ball ache to try and find the wire to re connect the broken link. Shocked
