I went to Preston HD dealership for a planned ride-out today, ok it was raining a little bit but ....

it wasnt long ago that kitty was defending the reputation of harley riders too.

To be fair, anyone who has ever ridden a harley, wouldnt ever want to ride one in the wet. They are shit at the best of times, I reckon in the wet they are pretty dangerous.

Also, although harley riders think the image is 'hard', they are actually soft leisure bikes, so if they wouldnt have fun riding in the wet, why should they. Of course they wouldnt actually admit that they cant ride in the rain, but we know its true.

I bet they are a bitch to clean afterwards.

Harleys are shit in the rain because they have forward controls. Riding with forward controls in the rain leads to water going up your trouser legs. Sometimes all the way up, this is unpleasant to say the least.

I would of been out today and I will be out on Sunday which is my only day off this week regardless of weather.
Never had rain go up inside of leg from forward control good waterproofs dont allow it and as for handeling as before I can and do take on a beat sports bikes and can ground her on both sides on twisties as well.
Nowt wrong with a bit of rain and as for cleaning hot sponge and soap brings her up gleaming.
Have to agree I am not the norm for a Harley rider but if I hadnt switched I would of had my own RIP topic as well.
Seen a awfull lot of mates go and I want to die in bed with a couple of young 18 year old women either side after a good session

Having witnessed first hand the way Americans ride I can see where you are coming from McGee but you are talking here to someone who has taken a bike over 200mph and thats British mph not American and who has stepped off after losing it at over 150 and walked away on the track.
I can only say a riders limitations are as much as his mind lets him
Yes you will leave me on the straights no dispute but I can and do go deep and keep the power on in corners and make up a lot of ground.
Now put us both on identical bikes and then we could perform and I could show anyone equally powered the back end no problem
Never ever been beaten on the local fast roads round here when I had my own sports bikes.
And I never take any bike anywhere on a trailer or in a truck other than race bikes

I still don't get this 'riding in the rain' thing.

If you ride a bike to work (commute) you will, of necessity, sometimes need to ride in the rain. And if you've got any sanity you'll ride a hack, not a £15k Harley or £8k+ sportsbike.

If your riding is not for work but for pleasure, and you don't get any pleasure from riding in the rain, why would you do it? To 'prove' you're A Biker?

I've ridden countless times in the rain, on good bikes and bad. Now I ride a bike purely for pleasure (it's a toy). Firstly I can't go fast in the rain, it's cold, slippery and dangerous. Secondly I get no pleasure from having to wash all the salty sh!te off my bike (been caught a few times, despite my best efforts).

So I'm not a 'Real Biker'? What a load of tosh. Hot dry days, optimum conditions for riding my bike the way I like to ride it, fast and cranked over.

I have owned/ridden both Yamaha and Kawasaki Cruisers. The VRSCR is better, and unlike with the Kawa I don't have to wage a running battle with rust. The Suzuki M109 was a machine I considered, but the V handles better and doesn't feel as heavy and is easier to filter with. Faster than a fair few in light traffic, I can keep up with supposedly nimbler bikes in the heaviest traffic. I would say that were it not for its fuel consumption, it would make a great commuting bike. Triumph's various cruisers do not interest me. The Rocket III is ungainly looking. What is this anti-HD thing? There are probably more hobby bikers on Triumphs or Ducatis.

and i personally dont like the way harley's ride

old technology is fine for beer, not for bikes

however i wdnt like to think of myself as a bike snob, so i guess i shd moderate my views a little

A VRSCR has 121 bhp (at the crank) out of 1.1 watercooled litres. While not absolutely cutting edge, the revolution engine has a fine sound under acceleration and shifts me about quick enough. Nothing wrong with hobby bikers or bikes (the best second hand buy imo). A man might find himself funding a wife and three children or whatever, bikes have to take second place then. Just as long as a rider conducts himself well on the road, he should be respected.
