Who's off skiing this year? Anyone been for Christmas? Looks like there's a very good base of snow already.
I'd always wanted to go from being a kid, so I used the money that my gran left me to go for a week with the school when I was 11 (back in the days when comprehensive schools did trips). I didn't go again until I was 16, and earning some money from a part-time job, but lately I've been trying to go several times a year and often do a bit of boarding at the end of the week. Given the choice between a summer holiday (when I'd go diving rather than lie on a beach) and a winter holiday (skiing) I'd take the latter every time! Our daughter (6) loves it.
I've tended to go for a week in January (cheap) and a weekend in April (cheap), but this year we've just booked Easter week in Meribel (f*cking expensive).
Who else is going? ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |

I really love skiing!
And as a young 'un, it takes a whole new life when you actually have the ability to hit the black runs confidently and tackle off piste without any real troubles.
Skiing down a black run running alongside a chairlift gives me such a big 'feel good' factor knowing that people are watching me dart from off piste and doing the moguls at speed (but still controlled) to getting back on piste and attacking everything well.
Then there are the times when you are pushed to your limit. A few years back we went down a 'slope' that I would never have thought to do. It was actually a gap between 2 big rocky outcrops that at its slimmest was about 2.5m wide and pretty damn steep. WOW was the feeling when you'd done that and were able to breeze through the powder to get back on piste.
Its my one skill that I feel capable and proud of. Others have their guitars and their track days (wish I had them too!), but the mountains are my church and wish I could be there everyday!
OH MAN I WANT TO GO NOW!!!! |
