Who's off skiing this year? Anyone been for Christmas? Looks like there's a very good base of snow already.

I'd always wanted to go from being a kid, so I used the money that my gran left me to go for a week with the school when I was 11 (back in the days when comprehensive schools did trips). I didn't go again until I was 16, and earning some money from a part-time job, but lately I've been trying to go several times a year and often do a bit of boarding at the end of the week. Given the choice between a summer holiday (when I'd go diving rather than lie on a beach) and a winter holiday (skiing) I'd take the latter every time! Our daughter (6) loves it.

I've tended to go for a week in January (cheap) and a weekend in April (cheap), but this year we've just booked Easter week in Meribel (f*cking expensive).

Who else is going?

I really love skiing!
And as a young 'un, it takes a whole new life when you actually have the ability to hit the black runs confidently and tackle off piste without any real troubles.

Skiing down a black run running alongside a chairlift gives me such a big 'feel good' factor knowing that people are watching me dart from off piste and doing the moguls at speed (but still controlled) to getting back on piste and attacking everything well.

Then there are the times when you are pushed to your limit. A few years back we went down a 'slope' that I would never have thought to do. It was actually a gap between 2 big rocky outcrops that at its slimmest was about 2.5m wide and pretty damn steep. WOW was the feeling when you'd done that and were able to breeze through the powder to get back on piste.

Its my one skill that I feel capable and proud of. Others have their guitars and their track days (wish I had them too!), but the mountains are my church and wish I could be there everyday! Karma Razz

OH MAN I WANT TO GO NOW!!!! Mr. Green

Yep; here's another fan. Off to La Rosiere in the French Alps at the end of the month. It's a fairly small place but linked to La Thuile so it'll be nice to ski France and Italy on the same trip. I don't think there's much in terms of apres ski but there are 20 of us going so entertainment won't be an issue. Conditions are good over there at the moment and they're forecasting more snow this week although what I'm hoping for is a good dumping just before we go.

Last year was my first season; I'd always fancied it but never got around to going. Made some excellent progress; there were only 3 of us in ski school - me and two birds - they were usually late turning up so tuition was pretty much like private lessons. That was in Les Arcs in January - liked it so much I went to Val D'Isere in early April; both excellent holidays so can't wait until I'm out there again bombing down the steeps.

I'm definately hooked on the sport; even went to the SnoZone in Milton Keynes back in August for a bit of interim practice. Will look to get another trip in again late season.
