 |
|
...is to crash whilst on your way to the trackday!
Which is precisely what I managed to do. Went to overtake a bike and a car and as I got to go alongside the bike at about 70mph I had a big tank slapper, so I managed to crash whilst going in a completely straight line . Only damage was a bent gear lever and broken switchgear, the rest is cosmetic really.
The particular road is fairly bumpy but I've been down it plenty of times and overtaken on this section plenty of times. The bike was in good condition so I am at a loss as to what happened. I presume it's due to my relatively low body weight that tank-slappers happen with me.
Luckily working in a bike shop will mean I can get it repaired relatively cheaply hopefully.

Pretty good actually, little bit sore and stiff now but should be gone in a couple of days. My new leathers appear to have worked well, mainly slid on my arse and they are just a bit scuffed, nothing more.
I still went to the track and tried getting through as I was gonna pull all the lights etc off there and then but they wouldnt have it. |

https://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f186/markjackson13/ducttape.jpg
They let me on with it looking like that
Main thing is you're OK, and the bike doesn't look too bad any way. Do you have any way in increment the new speedo you're going to need? |

The most stupid trackday crash i've ever witnessed was at Cadwell Park a few years ago. One of the 'instructors' (destructor would be more appropriate) managed to highside his bike whilst leaving the holding area to join the track.
Now, for those of you that haven't been to Cadwell, the distance from the holding area to the track is about 15 feet. Somehow he managed to go from 0mph to bike-wrecking highside in this short distance - hero to zero in 15 feet.
There was the tiniest of tiny oil spots on the tarmac, and so obviously that was to blame - or at least that was his bullshit excuse.

This is probably common knowledge for some people, but I'd always wondered how that rider faired after the accident with injuries etc. I’d seen that 20 second clip loads of times, but no more.
Then a few days ago I happened to catch a piece on Police, Camera, Action where they interviewed the racer, a chap called Paul Orritt. It was the 1999 TT and he was on a FireBlade. Tough bloke.
Here’s a longer bit of footage apparently posted by the man himself:

.... and Reuben, bummer about the smash, glad to hear that you and the bike came out of it ok.
All the best. ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

Least it's only a bit bent and scuffed, you seem to have held up well, GWS on the recovery. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

One of the blokes from my old bike club highsided on the exit ramp at Cadwell, breaking his wrist. That was after a full track session with no mishaps
Cheers
