i think its dependant on the location of the building, and the area, often than not some places have silencers, i know we have one on our dyno, wich is about 100db

hope it helps in some way.

Edit for stupidity, sorry i didnt read it right, every mot bay around here never checks for Db really, its usualy an extra you have to buy with the mot station, because most dealers get the MOT bay for nothing, we did.

Steve.

I'm not interested for MOT purposes. I can't make it quiet for an MOT, I don't want to fail a trackday noise test, so want to have it tested before.

Noise testing isn't part of the MOT (well, not with equipment anyway) so I doubt that there will be any that do have the equipment.

shove a ball of wire wool down the end can, big enough so it wont go down the pipe or get shot out the end.

It's for a trackday!!!!!!!!!

He wants to go to MOT place to get it tested to ensure that he won't fail the noise test at the track and therefore lose the money he paid for the trackday!

If you live close to a noise test track why not just nip down there on a trackday and get them to test it? Thumbs Up

Hi

While it shouldn't be, the noise testing seems to often be inconsistant, and there is a fair variation in the levels recorded.

Normal limit for a noisy day is 105db. That is pretty noisy. Off the scale for permissable exposure limits.

All the best

Keith

As has been said, it's not for MOT purposes.

Thanks Kickstart. Just trying to gauge how noisy noisy is.

At Straightliners my 1200 Bandit with a full Akrapovic system and the road baffle out was 99db I think. 105db is 4 times louder.

All the best

You can buy a meter from Maplin about 69 quid, near enough to judge how bad/good it is.

https://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=34518&doy=17m1

It also depends on how the noise is measured. ie. method/equipment used, distance/angle from can.
But I would guess most tracks would only be concerned if you were taking the piss Catholic/Black or Scottish. Smile

I understood your first post perfectly.
Pity we have so many Non-English readers at bcf. Sad Razz

at trackdays I think it's done by the ACU method, or it's meant to me. 45 degrees from the can and at least 20 cm from the floor or something.
