MOT Stations and Noise Testing

Just read on the Donny website that MOT Stations have 100dB testing equiptment.

Anyone know if this is shite or not?

i think its dependant on the location of the building, and the area, often than not some places have silencers, i know we have one on our dyno, wich is about 100db

hope it helps in some way.


Edit for stupidity, sorry i didnt read it right, every mot bay around here never checks for Db really, its usualy an extra you have to buy with the mot station, because most dealers get the MOT bay for nothing, we did.

I'm not interested for MOT purposes. I can't make it quiet for an MOT, I don't want to fail a trackday noise test, so want to have it tested before.

Noise testing isn't part of the MOT (well, not with equipment anyway) so I doubt that there will be any that do have the equipment.

While it shouldn't be, the noise testing seems to often be inconsistant, and there is a fair variation in the levels recorded.

Normal limit for a noisy day is 105db. That is pretty noisy. Off the scale for permissable exposure limits.
