A bit of wind has turned my latest bike cover into about seven smaller bike covers and doesn't really do the job I was hoping it would do anymore.

I had a look around for something to replace it with and a local shop has the Oxford Aquatex for about £20. It just looks like the thing I'm replacing really and I worked out that this is my third cover in three years so I will have spent about £60 in total on crap. I thought I'd look for something better.

I have seen the Stormex and the Held art thing and they are supposed to be the 'better' type of cover but I read reports about the Stormex soaking up any water within a 3 mile radius with it's ultra spongy lining.

I read about the 'Classic Additions' covers which appear to be made for each bike. Cost £55 + £7 postage. That's a pretty hefty price for a sheet of plastic and it would have to last three years to be worth buying over one of the pieces of crap I have previously had.

I know TobyR talked about buying one a while ago but I don't remember reading about how it has held up? Any opinions on these things? They look ok from the pictures (as good as a picture of a bike cover can look Confused It's such an exciting subject ). If you guys say its worth it then I'll probably go for it and if it's not... well I'll still have written the longest and most boring post on the subject of bike covers ever.

Cheers for any help.

I suppose it would help if I were to post a link to the cover i'm rambling on about.

At the very least this will give you something to look at whilst your wondering why the hell your reading about bike covers when there are so many better things you could be doing with your life

Cheers

I use a £10 item from Ebay. Cheap as chips, thin material, and expect it to rip sometime, but for a tenner, can't complain.

Bit lightweight, so blows around a bit (but only to dry the bike a little, as it remains relatively waterproof), but fastened by clips so does stay on the bike (and not strong enough to knock it over).

Got one of these from the nec for my ninja and its great, waterproof and breathable and clips under the rear wheel and bellypan. Very strong as well.

I've got the Classic Additions one and rate it.

It has got a 'heat shield' panel at the back to stop the exhausts burning the cover, a soft lining that dries quickly ad has bungee hooks to stop the wind getting under it as well as a strap that goes under the bike.

It is the only cover I have had so can't compare to it to any others but it is really well made, has held up well for 6 months [no signs of wear and tear]. It is expensive for what it is, as it is essentially a piece of plastic but I am happy with mine.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Like I said, I just wasn't sure whether it was worth shelling out the extra over a normal £10-£20 one that dies the same job but dies quicker.

My last one was a Motrax one, Not a heavy duty one like Yankeedoodle's though. Looks like it might stand up to a little more abuse.

Cheers mate, I hoped someone would have some feedback about it. I think I just want someone to say "stop faffing around and buy the stupid thing... It's only a damn bike cover".
After Toby's original post I hoped he had already done the testing on this Smile

The one from bike-covers.com looks good too. I'll have to give it some thought. I doubt it will be causing me to lose any sleep though Very Happy

Craig - a £10 ebay jobbie on your bike Shocked . I kind of assumed that any bikes you had would have their own forcefield to keep them safe Mr. Green

I use the one I got from Lidl. Reassuringly heavy with a soft underside. I expect it will last. Being a one size fits all, it makes my bike an anonymous lump, which is just perfect.
