Well basically this probably sounds like a particularly stupid idea but this is a bike forum so I'm sure there are adrenaline junkies who have experience in the insurance of fast tuner cars. I've been considering selling my Seat Ibiza 1.4 for something with a little more grunt once I run out of insurance and I have my heart set on R32 Skylines. By the time I could buy one I'd be 19, have 2 years no claims on the motorbikes and 1 years no claims in my car, will anyone insure me at a reasonable price bearing in mind the car is a 2.5/2.6. If not does anyone else have any decent suggestions for a faster car that is generally not a joke to insure and fun to drive. Thanks for any help, I've posted a link to the kind of car I wanted below to anyone that doesn't know what they are.

Hi

Insurance will be a joke on most things, and a Skyline is likely to be really silly on insurance (as well as running costs).

Try https://www.bell.co.uk .

All the best

Thanks Keith, I had a look at the link and tried to get a quote but they don't seem to insure Skylines as they don't come up under 'model' from Nissan... Neutral

yes it is possible, if you have enough money. My estimate would be around 3-4k

The insurance company will laugh their tits off when you try for insurance, and quote you thousands, especially as the Skyline is an import.

Any performance car will rape you for insurance at 19. Perhaps try a 'classic' car, which may come in a bit better - how about something like this classic little number sure the owners club will have access to discounted insurace.

a volvo s40 t4, 200 bhp and reasonable on insurance, i don't think i'd like to insure a 106 at 19 let alone anything quick hence the reason i turned to bikes!!

I've got to say, what is the point. With all the power available, you will crash it, or it'll get nicked. Either way, you'll lose loads of money.

I've driven loads of cars, from crapped out Metros and 1.1 Fiestas to proper rally-slagged motors with wild engines and such. And you can only drive a car to it's limit. Find a car that is playful and the limit is low - and play with the limit. For example, my first car, the Metro went round corners like it was on rails. Wet, dry, flat out at 85mph, I had a fantastic hoon in it. Move up a few gears in a quick car and you've got to work a lot harder to get to it's limit, and you *will* run out of talent before the car does.

Get some time behind you and save your dosh chap. Seriously.

I agree with the idea of getting a classic as they are much cheaper on insurance. Something like a Midget or MGB might suit, although by today's standards they aren't very quick.

Early MX-5s could be insured on some classic policies as the oldest ones are 18 years old now. Just beware that most classic insurers won't insure anyone under 21 (some are 25), so you're limiting choice a little bit. Get some quotes from people like Footman James and Adrian Flux.

You'll be able to get insured, it won't be cheap, to see how (un) reasonable it is get some quotes to give you an idea.

What about one of the later model celicas?

Or a bmw?

Both will have lower insurance than a skyline, and you can still get a fair bit out of them,

I reckon your best bet would be classic car insurance.

I think AA do classic car insurance when the car is over 12 years old.

I think you have to be over 25 though, so probably no good for you.

Might be worth checking out though.

Ring round and try some speciallist and small places, some places will take into acount bike claims. I've found i you talk to small places they will speak directly to the underwriters to draw you up a quote.

I think you'll really struggle to get anyone to insure you.

I just had a quick look on autotraders insurance search thing and not 1 company would quote. Laughing

I had a 300zx TT which is a group 18-20, when I was in my early 20's (21 I think).
I had trouble finding insurance myself but a local broker rang around and found me a policy with a stupidly high excess. It was about £800-£900 TPFT, but this was 6 years ago.

If your even worried about the cost of insurance you probably shouldn't buy one, It cost me £70 a week in fuel to use mine as a daily driver doing average mileage and that was with 6 yr old fuel prices.
Add to that expensive and frequent servicing and the fact you need a couple of grand stashed away just in case something major breaks. Lots of work will need to be carried out by a specialist and they don't come cheap.

Have you though about a 200SX S14/a not as special as an R32 GTR but a bit more sensible and they can be really fast with a little tuning.

I have an import R33 GTR. I am 26, 8 years no claims bonus, live in a low crime area. I had to get various security devices installed, and it still costs me £1200/year, due to modifications. Min price I got quoted for an unmodified one was £700.

At 19 I would say, wait a bit longer mate. You get absolutely rinsed. Rolling Eyes
