Parts prices: Grrrrr!

Hi there,

I'm currently trying to source a left hand switchgear set for my '02 blade. As you can imagine I've tried breakers yards, and David silver etc and not had much luck.

David silver have quoted me a price, but its £90 inc delivery Shocked

I mean, £90 for three switches and a bit of plastic? How do these people sleep at night? They said that honda would charge me £85 ex vat and delivery and their discount cound get it for me for £79 ex vat and delivery.

So David silvers aren't making a bomb on it I'd guess, but Honda?? It makes my blood boil. Evil or Very Mad

Well what can you do.

Essentially dealers make fuck all out of vehicle sales, I mean nothing. If they didn't get rebates, then the sale would be loss making. That's just on the cost of the vehicle mind, not including all the other costs of running a business - employees, rent etc.

Margins on parts and service have to be high to support the very low prices fo vehicles.

Parts margins are in the region of 50% - so that part costs Honda £45, they sell to you at £90.

Companies who specialise in the manufacture of pattern parts (eg EBC brakes spring to mind), can charge a lower price as they don't have to support selling cheap vehicles.

Unfortunately switchgear won't fall into this category, so sadly you are a bit fucked.

I've done all the free part searches on the web. I need to do a pay one now ( as they claim to contact more breakers!)

At the end of the day you're probably better off coughing up for the new part as 2nd hand parts may have an unknown history or are broke anyways.

Or you could buy another 02 blade and break it for parts Very Happy

You earn money, then you spend money, if you broke it, and it cant be fixed then you need to replace it. Just get it bought without crying over how much it is then you'll fix your bike faster.

£81 is the cheapest he could manage.

As lonewolf suggests - might be worth looking at bodging a different one on. You can get some pretty professional looking loom-clips you could use.

Personally, as I said before, I'd just get one of these.
