Slip when filtering

Was filtering slowly through some traffic today (roughly 15mph) and was nearing the front of the queue. My eyes were looking around, making sure nobody was going to cut across me or any such thing.

Suddenly, the bike slips and I find myself holding it at a slant hoping it wouldn't drop. Turns out someone's number plate had fallen off and was sitting in the middle of the road, under my front tyre.

Anyone had anything like this happen to them? How often do you look at the floor when filtering?

About 6 years ago my friend and I had NSR125s.

After my mate finished work one day, he popped round on the bike and we had a chat in the sreet. He shot off home for dinner zooming up and over the hill. A car was coming in the other direction, with a parked car causing an obstruction.

My mate then started braking only to find the front sliding at an angle!

Turns out he had trapped a Coke bottle top under the wheel, and as he tried to brake the bottle top had acted like a plastic puck...

Crapped himself that day!

You mean you only have 1 pair of eyes!!! You need at least 6 when riding a bike

I know what you mean though, watching for idiots pulling across on you is bad enough, I tend to to try and look at everything in front of me when filtering, from floor upwards, just dont filter too fast.

Sounds like a nice save though if you managed to keep it up!

I've had it with my back wheel and a chunk of plastic! Feels weird doesn't it! Like you've stopped on ice.

The question is, did you keep it upright?

I've noticed a few licence plates lying in the middle of the road on the way into work recently, thankfully I've got a good memory and so haven't ridden over them yet in the past couple of weeks!
I keep wanting to check if they have the same reg but I always go past too fast.

I was following a car (too closely) the other day and had to go over a couple of bricks that were in the middle of the road, of course they just passed straight under the middle of the car so I had no warning. Taught me a little lesson that day... hold on tight at all times!!

its not bike relate but i once was picking up a couple of mates from outside an indian and pulled my car up outside which was on a pretty steep hill. There was a car in front of me and behind me but not too close and i started rolling back as usual i gave it some throttle and slipped the clutch but the wheels kept spinning! Turns out i had driven over a pizza and it made it like driving on ice

Traffic cones, road signs, blue nylon rope, dead fox turned inside out and on one occasion a triangular manhole with the cover missing - managed to steer over corner as middle was perfect size for front wheel.

Mate of mine crashed his zx9r years ago on a numberplate, he ran over it while cornering front went away from him lowsiding it. He actually tried to claim off the owner of the numberplate but i dont think it got anywhere!
