High fuel consumption?

Well right
my bikes only a 50cc.
I fill up with around 9 pounds of fuel on a tuesday
and it will use the whole tanks worth by thurs/friday

Im only doing about 30 miles... in that space of time

Ive taken my air filter off and cleaned the foam filters and resoaked with 2 stroke and put them back in,

Checked the plug and it was very clean, been in about 5 weeks, so its burning it all, but surely a 50cc shouldnt be drinking this much fuel?

Yeah i think it should be better than that.

Maybe try looking for a leak.And check the overflow pipe from the carb.Might be that it's only leaking when it's running?

At the moment im riding a mallagutti phantom 100cc and i get about 70 miles from £5 quid.

No leaks ive checked all the lines, and the carb when running and standing now.

Ye, i have mates with similar bikes and they get so many more miles.

I was thinking something carb related like mixture or jets or something?

I would have thought for the consumption to be that bad,the settings would have to be really far out.
Would probably be running like a bag of schite?

I would of thought that to,
Its running good, but the amount of fuel its using is worrying for a small bike.

Getting 55 out of it at a push.
Which is making me think its jets, as its running perfect top end, just a bit slow on low end, like the powerband is late in the gears.

So approx 17 mpg....

I would guess at you got a leak either in the tank or the pipe.

If it was the jets i would expect to see it choke itself.

Got a prime setting on the fuel tap? That will lead to very high fuel consumption very quickly.

Still under warrenty, but unless i get the bike up country about 300 miles i cant use the warrenty?

so its going to cost me more to get up there than get it fixed down here.

Uhhm there isnt a tap on these bikes surprisingly.
manual says some models do some dont, ive checked the fuel lines and there isnt one,

Any other ideas?

I'm having a similar problem on my nsr, but im not sure why, i filled up with a tenner not too long back and yesterday when i was stripping the bike down the tanks only half full (at most!)

I feel as if its evaporating off because it's not leaking from anywhere.

but the bike has been standing with the fuel 'on' so mayeb thats it?

30 miles on £9 of fuel On a 50 Something very wrong there, sounds like someone is pinching your fuel to me too. Where did you get the idea of soaking your air filter in 2 stroke? Not sure if that's a good idea and if the garage get funny, it might affect your warranty. I used to put 50p worth of fuel in my 50 on a Monday and it would last all week Aye, those were the days

I'm pretty sure the air filter shouldn't be soaked in any oil, let alone 2-stroke. This will most likely have blocked up the filter and made the mixture incredibly rich.

Foam type ones normally have to be washed with petrol, left to dry and then have oil carefully applied and then squeezed out.

If the filter isn't exposed to the elements, ie, it's inside a box, I wouldn't bother with any oil, proper air filter oil or two stroke. Unless you spend a lot of time travelling across deserts maybe, or work on the beach.

The siphoning could be a issue, but i see it as unlikely, as its in a college carpark where people are out and in regularlly?

No leaks ive checked all the pipes, from the vaccume etc all fine.

Recently the carb went in a shop for a decoke/clean as the needle was stuck and making all the fuel come out, no noticeable fuel coming out now, but is it possible the needle or float or whatever it is that controls the fueling is in the wrong position?

You need to be careful that the crankcase doesn't get flooded with fuel. This can happen on some bikes when the float valves aren't operating properly and allowing fuel from the carb to drip into the bottom of the engine. If you're only getting 17MPG and nobody is pinching fuel off you then there is a serious fault. what type of fuel tap have you got? does it have a "prime" position? Usualy marked "PRI"

Mine looks like that, although its not a tap
there is no settings for primed, reserve etc.
always on.. thats like poking from the bottom of the tank..

the manual says some bikes have them some dont, and as far as the lines show i dont have one...

its running good but i guess thats because its running so rich?

nope, if it was running rich it would bog down easily. Have you had a look at your spark plug?

Plugs clean, looked at that.
so clean when i took it out, i didnt need to clean it off haha =]
5 weeks old, and still giving good spark
Everything is pointing to needle or mixture?

Not really, if the plug has a healthy light brown colour and not black, mixture should be ok. I think you should measure exactly half a gallon,(or 2 litres), in a can, note the mileage and next time you go onto reserve stick it in the bike. When you go onto reserve again, check the mileage. Somethings not adding up here. Does the fuel cap have a lock? Does the bike have a tap like this one:-

If they're not expensive, I'd deffo replace the air filter elements
