Posted: 23:03 - 20 Feb 2008 Post subject: DVLA - Revoked license due to not recieving form :( |
 |
|
Heh, my license has been revoked by the DVLA since the 14th January, they kindly informed me today.
Basically, I was diagnosed with Sleep Apneoa at the end of last year, had a tonsil operation about a month ago to try and cure it.
I informed the DVLA that I had SA and they told me they'd send me a form to fill in releasing my medical records to them.
Filled it in, sent it off close to the deadline.
Got a letter back from them saying "If you don't release your records we'll revoke your license automatically, if you've already signed the form, please ignore this letter"
So I ignored the letter, a month passes by (Until today) and a letter drops on my doormat saying
"We wrote to you on the 14th January 2008 to tell you about the revocation of your driving entitlement from 18th January 2008. We also asked you to return the license
We are sorry to have to tell you that we have not recieved your licence(s) which, should be returned immediately. Please may we remind you that the license is no longer valid and you will be committing an offence if you continue to use it".
Sufficed to say, I am absolutely fucking fuming
T

Sleep apnoeaIntroductionObstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnoea syndrome (OSAHS) is a sleep disorder in which a person has irregular breathing at night and is excessively sleepy during the day.
In sleep apnoea, the upper airway (pharynx) collapses repeatedly, at irregular intervals, during sleep. Apnoea is when the airway collapses and is blocked completely, cutting off the flow of air. Hypopnoea occurs when the collapse is only partial. The airway is reduced and the person will experience hypoventilation (inadequate breathing).
The pause in breathing, or period of very restricted breathing, is usually defined as about 10 seconds, although it varies from person to person. The frequency of apnoea or hypopnoea is used to assess the severity of this condition. The number of times that the apnoea occurs in an hour is called the apnoea/hypopnoea index (AHI) or the respiratory disturbance index (RDI). An AHI of between 5 and 14 in an hour is mild sleep apnoea. Between 15 and 30 is moderate. More than 30 in an hour is severe that means at least one every two minutes.
As people with sleep apnoea fall asleep, the muscles in their airway relax. The collapsing of the airway (pharynx) causes people to come out of deep sleep and either wake momentarily or sleep lightly, as they are trying to breathe more deeply. The person soon resumes deep sleep, and the cycle begins again. The period of wakefulness is so brief that even though it may happen hundreds of times a night, the person usually won't remember waking up.
Sleep apnoea affects around one in 100 people. Overweight men between the ages of 30 and 65 are most commonly affected, but it may also occur in children with enlarged tonsils or adenoids.

Crikey, you do everything by the book do you?
We all know how useless the DVLA are, if you didn't send it recorded delivery then you can't really complain. How do you know it wasn't the RM that 'lost' it? When your license is at stake, you take precautions...good god man! |

I cannot believe anyone would send such an important document as a driving licence second class!!
If it goes missing you've only got yourself to blame. Also having proof of postage won't get your licence back and can lead to all sorts of aggro to get a new one.
At least if it's recorded it can then be traced... ____________________ Previous: Aprilia Habana Retro 50cc (beauty), Yamaha SR125 (fell apart), Honda XR125 (nippy little commuter), Honda SLR650 (Geewhizz), Yamaha Diversion 900S (Smoooooth) written off courtesy of a stupid escaped horse.
(7 year gap), BMW F650 (Relaxing ride). Aprilia Caponord ETV1000 (Big and bold). Yamaha FZS600 (got me in trouble too quick!).
Current: Yamaha TDM 900 (Comfy, light but big, power when needed). |
