What do you expect your fitness instructor to look like?

As it says, would you take fitness advice from someone who was not exactly Kate Moss? Or does your instructor have to represent whatever you are trying to achieve - be that slim or muscular?

The last Trust the I worked in had a dietetics department that were a bunch of fat fighting wannabes with fanny bulges of a seond trimester pregnancy and bingo wings to match. Surely you should practice what you preach? The new dietitians that I work with are mucho better if you know what I mean.

Ugly but fit and healthy is what i'd hoped for on my first trip to the gym.

But unfortunatly there i was on induction in my jogging bottoms with a brunette wearing spandex shorts that left nothing to the imagination with a rack most girls would envy.
She was showing the the step machine and i was in a trance.

Used to laugh at my PE teachers in school they where heffers and never exercised.

I remember going to a gym once, one of these L.A fitness type things, an I was there doing my thing. I saw an instructor come through with a man and woman trailing behind him. He leads them to the dumbells and what he did next left me gobsmacked.....

I saw him take a bodybuilding book from under his arm, flick through a few pages, read what the excercise was and how it should be performed, then turns round to the couple and says "right then, we're going to do this excercise now" an proceeded to demonstrate what he had just read.

I was laughing out loud in disbelief - I mean, these instructors get paid a decent bit of coin for this personal training, and what was this guy gettin paid for??? Reading for them??? Were they both illiterate??? Not to mention the fact that the instructor himself was thin as a rake an there he was trying to teach this over guy (who was already more muscular than the instructor) how to put of size an develop strength......???

IMO you can read an be taught all you like but if you're going to be a personal trainer to someone who wants to put on size/strength then you;d better know what you're talkin about from experience because if you havent been there and done it yourself then you really wont have a clue what you are talking about.

Take now the personal trainer in my regular gym (a dank sweat, blood and grime type gym!), the guys built like a horse and has a brilliant physique, therefore people feel confident payin him his extortionate rate because at least he shows he can practice what he preaches!!

So yeah, depending exactly what you're lookin for, I think your instructor set an example of what you aim to acheive.....

I agree with Grooverider. A fitness instructor should be the embodiment of fitness, as they are there to inspire you to achieve what they have. It should be a case of "Lead by Example".

All the instructors at my gym looks relatively fit...some of the male instructors are tonks!

There was a lady instructor who became pregnant.....she disappeared for a month (as expected after giving birth)...i saw her about 1 1/2months later and she look HOTTER and FITTER than before she was pregnant!!

For a personal trainer: unless it was some old established sport legend, i'd expect them to be fit.

At a shitty gym I wouldn't give a rats arse aslong as they were educated.

Don't need no teachin, word. Mo' money mo' problems. Ayyt?
