Wahing wool

I need to wash two jumpers, they have oil, blood and general grime on them.
My washing machine has three wool settings
10. Delicate Wash 40
11. Main Wash 40
12. Mini Wash 30

There is also a cotton setting
5. Cold Wash

Any idea which I should use and should I use washing powder or washing up
liquid? I do know about not putting petrol in washing machines BTW.

I hate wool jumpers, I had one once.

It just kept getting smaller and smaller, I thought I was just getting fatter and fatter.

Until one day I realised it would barely be big enough for a five year old child to wear.

Well they are about £150s worth between them so I do not want to shag things up. I could go and ask Mrs P next door but she is Pakistani and Asians do not wear much wool.

My mate just called and said use the delicate setting and no washing up liquid, think that sounds good?

I just wash mine with all the other clothes on a normal wash, but then they may be partly synthetic.

I'd be inclined to go for the 30 degree mini wash, it might not totally clean them but less chance of them shrinking to toddler size.

It should be the temperature.

You should be ok Ariel... might be worth you getting some 'Vanish' or other stain removal stuff for the future.

Well each jumper is £75 so it is not as bad as it seems.
I was wearing the one jumper when I crashed and the other when I fixed the bike.

Seems to have worked OK, they have not shrunk and the grime is gone .
Is it OK to dry over a radiator hanging on a hanger?

Hanging it up will pull it out of shape with the weight of the water.

You can wash wool by hand or delicate low temperature.

The problem with wool is that the fabric is fragile and can be damaged by too much agitation and heat.

Short low speed spin should be fine and hang to dry but make sure the garment is adequately supported. IE the sleeves are not dragging on the ground.....

Heat is not a good idea as this will cause shrinkage.

After its dry it is best to iron (at 'Wool' temp **) this allows the wool fibers to be re-aligned and the garment will resume it's best shape.

Balling can be removed by hand or using any one of several machines available on the market.

You may want to consider marrying a 'Good Woman' (Which these days is very hard to find.)
Or alternatively, buy a new wardrobe and go out for a run on the bike instead.

And be careful using detergents. These strip the oils from your skin which promotes dermatitis. After contact, wash thoroughly using a good quality hand soap, dry and moisturise.

And follow the garment 'Care Instruction' label or ask the retailer.

I have to admit, I wouldnt wash DECENT* wool things in the machine at all.

You're better off soaking them for half an hour in that flakey soap stuff and then hand washing them, rubbing the stain out.

Bit of an arse to rinse, but it is much better for them than being bashed about in a metal drum.

I went through a lot of cloths to find this out! plus my mum is a laundry expert! She passed her skills to me. I also learned that also you should never Iron Nylon school skirts or satin when I was in school.

I do not charge my menfolk for domestic duties*.
I usually just relieve them of their sanity over a matter of years, as a sort of payment-in-kind instead.

Although its possible I could arrange for a french maid to do it, I suppose.

But I couldnt guarantee that the french maid wouldn't have a willy
