Very Happy Hay there

My friend and I want to travel around Scotland this summer or when the good weather eventually gets here.
Travelling from Oxford to Scotland and back with both of us on Suzuki's (his Gs 125cc, mine Gn 125cc)
The bikes are in great condition. We have proper gear. Although wouldn't mind having heated gloves, Hand shields.

So how do you all think we'll get on?
Speed/time...

Any hints or tips, human capability or engine capability related.
Places to stop. Question
We want to travel as light as possible ie 1 regular size backpack.

My tip: Don't stop at the S/W (well u can for a night!) but keep going up to the the NW towards Ulapool and the Isle of Skye... Well that's what I'm doing anyway, the roads are supposed to be spectacular.

Check out the Scotland thread in this forum

Yeah been told about Ullapool. Have a friend who is a path builder (mountain man) he and his team built some mountain paths in that area and said the sights were magnificant.

Not sure where we'll stop yet.

Considering tank bags instead of backpacks. yeah better idea i think.
Still intent on hand shields/heated gloves...

Thanx for the input guys x

dont forget to let them engines cool, maybe take a few spares ie plugs etc

i whent from yorkshire to cambridgeshire on my yammy sr 125 and i stoped half way to let it cool the day after i came back 300miles round trip but engine didnt apriciate it neaded a good servce after, i was riding in bad conditions though i recomend a break every 50 to 75 miles just for the bikes to cool,

*update*

just checked on the aa route planner from oxford to glasgow alone it 393 miles, i presume you are learners going on 125 cc machines so i took that into account and thats without motorways, if you going further north that will be a round trip of over 1000miles so i would allow time of 3-4 days to do it sensibly, if anything goes wrong ie weather trafic etc it could take a lot longer. my trip to wisbech cambridgeshire took me 4.5 hours and my machine does 70, my problem was fierce wind and driving rain too me 3 hours to get home(better weather)

go carefull and good luck

Hay man thank you, this is sound advice.

Yeah, the capability of the engines was the foremost concern for us so we'll defly be taking spares. I'll be travellling with a young engineer so if anything goes wrong (hopefull not) we have the 'skill'.

Yeehaaa... tad excited.

Been to Canterbury and back a few times (~300 miles round trip with a few hours break in the middle) on my XR125L via A14, M11, M25, A2, M2, A2. Throttle is wide open most of the way and I don't normally stop until I get there.
Bike is fine. When I first tried a longish motorway run I found it would overheat and slow down. Then I read the manual which recommended a different spark plug for sustained high speed work. Changed the plug and since had no problems. Only other thing to watch is the oil level. The XR only holds 0.9l. At the moment it doesn't burn any, but if it did it wouldn't take long to empty the sump.
Not sure about plugs and oil on the Suzuki 125s - worth checking.

aah...

I didn't know that you may have to do that. I'll check the manual for that, thanks. Thumbs Up
This is the reason i posted this subject, to rather be safe than sorry.
