 |
|
Hey All,
Theres something that i've been pondering over for a while now, (yes i lead a dull life ) How come motorbikes don't have a gear selector indicator? When i'm out on the bike i've got used to hearing/feeling the tune of the bike, so i rely on that but wouldn't it be much easier if we had a little dial or summin to tell you what gear your in? When i did my CBT the 125 they gave me had one, to be honest i found it useful, so come on then enlighten me, how come they're not fitted as standard???? ____________________ CBR 600Fi (PGM) in BRIGHT YELLA! You can add them on, and some bikes now have them stock. Never found them useful.
I have one on my car, standard, and see no use for it . ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

gear indicators = more weight
More things to go wrong
More OEM parts = less profit for the manufacturers
More complexity compared to say a neutral light ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

Shouldn't you just go round the corner at a comfortable speed, and therefore the gear that that speed is found at? If the engine is screaming you need to change up, if its lumpy change down. Sorted.
The only other real need for it is to stop you going for 7th gear but thats not really a problem, similarly if you aren't sure you are in first when you came to a halt, try and kick it down, if it does, you weren't, if it doesn't you were.

That'll be because most gixxer riders are so retarded they need a display to tell them what gear they are in. ____________________ If you dont like the way that I ride.......Stop trying to keep up!!! |

What gear you are in makes no diffrence |
Course it bloody does!!
Example:
I come up to a right hand turn off from a main road, slow down indicating, see gap in oncoming traffic - can't quite remember if the last gear I selected was 3rd or 4th. Hope it was 3rd so drop down one... except I drop into 3rd instead of 2nd, so I lean into corner and instead of a nice acceleration pulling me round as I'm leaning, I get a low down mutter and hardly any acceleration - meaning I'm leaning too much with a lack of 'pull' to get me round, have to mess about with less leaning, quickly changing gears etc and generally looking a mess!
Now this doesn't happen to me very often thankfully, and most cases when it does dropping to 1st and back up before the turn lets me know what I'm doing. But a gear indicator would help no end... ____________________ Previous: Aprilia Habana Retro 50cc (beauty), Yamaha SR125 (fell apart), Honda XR125 (nippy little commuter), Honda SLR650 (Geewhizz), Yamaha Diversion 900S (Smoooooth) written off courtesy of a stupid escaped horse.
