I'm looking for a new 125 for November when I'll be 17, but don't really know any good ones out there... I've looked at the Derbi GPRs and Sendas and they seem pretty cool, and the same with the Aprillia RS.
Anyone know of any good ones out there? Or have any info on the ones I mentioned? Very Happy

CBR125 is quite a decent bike as are RS125s. I think the RS cost a bit more but both have good reviews. Also Check www.ebay.co.uk and www.autotrader.co.uk Smile

Thumbs Up

The new yamaha YZF-R125 is very nice for size - would be slow tho being a 4 stroke, but i'd want one if I were 17 again! Having said that, any used Mito/RS125 is cheaper. NSR 125 is a bit smaller than the two i've mentioned there - after sitting and riding them back to back.

Get something that's two stroke rather than a four stroke.

And get something second hand rather than something new.

i think the dtr125 would be the winner for you Thumbs Up
it has the ability to go off road, and will piss all over any 4 stroke 125,
plus its large enough for you not to look like a try hard on it Thumbs Up

the TDR's are extremely slow and slugish im sorry to say, just thaught id add that in since a few of my friends own them, i have a brand new RS 125 (yes i know about the value etc. etc.) and its an amazing machine, ive beaten plenty of much bigger bikes than me (250's 400's) on corners there a dream to ride, took me about 2-3 days to get used to the riding position but id recommend it to anyone but just make sure its looked after properly, also the nsr is a nice, quite quick bike but as said before its slightly lower, also the mito's are mean machines!

hope this helps Smile Karma

pah they may be s;low compared to a rs 125, but i wasnt comparing a tdr to anoth 2 stroke was i?!!! no!

as for a rs125 they are a little toy bike, he is 6'2" he'll look like a giant on it, i look like a giant on a zxr750 let alone a weasly little 125.

i stand by the tdr or even a dt as the perfect 1st bike,

chill i never said you was i was just trying to give some friendly advice, he said he liked the rs125 so i thaught id give an opinion on it since i own one, DT's are good bikes but are quite fragile if you crash (not saying you will) but any scrambler is dam fun, i had a honda mtx 125 before my RS and i had tons of fun on it, hope this helps Smile Karma

I would have to disagree with them being fragile.
I crashed mine off road LOADS of times (as you do ) and everytime managed to ride away with no problems.
Unlike the rs theres no plastics to damage Very Happy

Cant really compare the two agains eachother though as they are totally different styles of bikes.

I have to admit, even if i was looking for a road bike,i would not choose the rs.

Oh and that tdr Thumbs Up sweet Thumbs Up

my friends must of had some really bad luck then, they have crashed on-road and bent handle bars, bent forks, broken indicators, broken the actual peice that hold the brake leaver etc. on (if you know what i mean) but i supposed thats just bad luck, wasnt fast crashes only about 15-20mph apart from that i cant fault them they are very decent bikes to ride and look the dogs bolluks Smile

P.S. only reason i chose an RS was because i wanted a bit more speed than a scrambler + i could barely touch the floor on a scrambler (got about 1 toe on the floor) and i didnt like the feel of the bike so i never felt safe on it.

thats my 2pence.

Im the opposite,i can ride fairly quick on any off road style bike, but get on anything more sporty looking i fall off Embarassed .

Im planning on getting a sportsbike soon, but ill make sure i get an old sh!t one,so it's not too expensive to fix when i come off Laughing

NSR, pre-95 RS, Mito.

I'd also say the 4DL variant of the TZR (best 125 I've ever ridden) but it's proved tremendously difficult to get parts for, they're also rare as rockinghorse shit and you'll end up paying over-the-odds for.

Whereas the RS125s are abundant. Although always budget in for a rebuild straightaway because IMO people sell them just before the engine's due to go pop.

This is a revision.

Do not buy a Derbi.

It feels well built yes, but upon removal of fairings this afternoon it appears to in fact be made entirely of rust, hope, and sheared bolts.

The things 8 years old, but it bloody looks it.

i have to admit KTM's are rapid machines but it depends on what purpose the OP wants the bike for? if its a fast cornering bike then go for a sporty bike, if its a fun wheelie machine then go for any crosser it all depends really, dont always go for bikes that look nice trust me, my first 125 (honda mtx 125) didnt look pretty at all but i had tons of fun on it doing wheelies (not real wheelies but did them for a good 30-50 meters) i only went for a lower sportier bike because im a short-arse Smile

i would recommend a crosser style bike but it depends what you really want the bike for.
