Caught speeding however the date of the offence is wrong

Now before people start jumping in and slating me. I know what I did was wrong and I accept the fact that I should take it on the chin as one of those things.

However as you may have guessed from the title the police officer has put down the wrong date. Instead of putting down 2008 he has put down 2006 and I've double checked and it is wrong.

Does anyone know if there is a way out of this due to the date?

It's a technicality but the ticket is invalid.

Your solicitor would get it thrown out of court in a heartbeat

Hey thanks for the response I managed to find that website called pepipoo and looked around for advice.

It looks like I need to speak to a solicitor for some advice as there is something called "the slip rule" and it seems to allow for typos such as that.

Or accept it knowing it'll only be valid for a year?

Problem here is you don't know whether it's shown as 2006 on big brothers computer. More than likely it was just a mistake upon physically adding it to the paper part. So hoping your 3 points only count for a year may not pay off.

I've recently got an NIP for speeding, however licence came back with code TS10, a traffic light offence?! How they got it that wrong I don't know. Written a letter but forgot to print it at work, will send tomorrow.

I'd try and find more info on this "slip rule".

I'd say that stuff like misspelling your name and address should be covered by this because they are kind of fixed facts that can be shown to be incorrect and are not connected with what you have been accused of.

The date of the offence however is a key fact of the case against you and so I reckon that it must be 100% correct. On that clampers programme on TV someone got their parking ticket revoked because the traffic warden had put 12:00 as the time of the offence without putting am or pm. The offence was actually at 00:00 i.e. midnight and so they were let off.

I think you have every right to deny the case that you did anything in 2006 which is what you have been accused of.

Of course my opinion is only based on what I think is fair and my anti-speed cam bias and what I have seen on TV shows so I suspect I could be totally off base.

And I've got a Ts20 which they regard as worse than both speeding and red light offences

Ive got an SP30
Also lost all my NCB this year thanks to a fellow "bikers" dis honesty.
And I managed to Insure my NC29 for £425.

Last year, with 3 years NCB, and the SP30 I insured it for £350.

So again, not much of a price hike there.

And back to the OP. A lad I work with got caught drink driving.
Went to court.
The Solicitor working against the lad I work with was asking for copies of all the police notebooks to see if the driver had been left alone at any time to have a drink between being caught driving and being breathalized.
The solicitor was asking for the wrong dates from the note books.

And it got chucked out of court.


Id fight it. And if that doesn't work, Just demand the Calibration Certificate for that Speed Camera on The date of the offense.

And just hope to fuck they dont have one.

I've got a TS10 on my licence, but I am being charged only £150 fully comp for a brand new Fazer FZ1. I've got 2 years no claims. When ringing around for quotes, one of the blokes working for an insurance agent told me that TS10 offenses carry less weight than speeding offenses, because they deem speeding as risky behaviour. Why TS10's are not puzzles me. He did say some speeding offenses are worse than others; I forget which. It's something to do with the insurance industries risk stratification methods. He was a random stranger on the end of a phone line, who may or may not have been correct. Make your own judgment on that. It might be interesting if two different people to ring the same broker for quotes, giving very similar information, differing only in the endorsement on the licence.
