 |
|
Hi guys
Right, last Monday i bought an aprilia rs125 gp-1 2004 from my local dealer and iv warmed it up every single day and have finally had time to get out on it today, so..
i warmed it up to around 60', set off slowly, went down a steep hill keeping in a high gear, came to the bottom of the hill and started driving up another steep hill, changed down a gear and was on my way up the hill when the bike cut out, cut in, then died. i pulled over and tried numerous times to start it again on the electric start and no luck, on about the 3rd attempt it backfired. I let it sit for about 3 mins then pushed it down the hill and tried to bump it and it seemed to be compressing properly but it just wouldn't start at all.
So, pushed it home, took the spark plug out and it was wet so i dried it off, checked for spark (strong spark) put it back in and tried to start it but after numerous attempts it would not start and now has a flat battery.
I though it could have blown a hole in the piston but it does sound to be compressing and there is no blowing when trying to start it, and it only backfired the once.
Does anyone know what might be wrong with it?? it had an engine rebuild around 320 miles ago and has always started up fine. Its not the end of the world as i have another bike to get around and the RS is still covered under the used bikes warranty but its so damn annoying!
And yes i have checked the fuel is switched on etc! lol
Thanks, Jon ____________________ aprillia rs125 gp-1 2004 |

Mechanic is talking out of his arse so it seems.
According to my manual - 500 miles of below 6,000 rpm riding.
Followed by a further 200 miles of under 9,000 rpm riding. |

Hi,
dont want to sound stoopid,
but have you tried a new plug?
i know you said you were getting a good spark, but i had this same problem, with a NGKbr10 plug.
plug was wet.
held it against frame & was getting a blue spark.
but when i cleaned it up & put it back in, bike wouldnt start.
bought a couple of new plugs, br8,br9 & br10.
tried the br9 first, bike started first time.
so i kept it in, till i changed the carb.
now using br10 iridium & never had a problem since.
i now treat plugs as disposable items!
cheers,

hi,
when mine wont start, here the routine i follow :
makes sures thers plenty of petrol in,
battery FULLY charged, anything under 12v & i charge it up.(doesnt like getting bumped, or im not doing it right?)
stick tap on reserve, (common problem for filter to block in on position)
fit new plug,
give it a couple of presses on starter,
if it doesnt start after 3 or 4 attempts,
use the choke for a few seconds, but always starts before i get to use choke, unless its really cold outside.
if youve done all that, & it wont start, id be taking it to the bike doctor,
cheers,

well, the dirt bike iv got is a 2006 aprilia rx50r. Uses the exact same spark plug (br9..) as my friend used to get his rs125 working.
Anyhow the bike was collected by the dealer today from my house and hopefully should be diagnosed. up and running before long.

If the problem is that its the fuel filter, can it still be road round on the reserve or will it not last very long (Might sound stupid don't know if the reserve is a seperate tank. lol)
I'm gettin the same problem with my 03 model but if i put it on reserve its seems to be ok up to yet. I've check the CDI and the bridge has been cut so I know the emission restrictor has been done, but I've also noticed few wires twisted together in a black cable, which don't don't appear to go to anything? Pic can be took if needed.
Any help appreciated, not really had chance to ride it since ave bought it. |

Er? What? |
I think what he means is:
It was rebuilt 320 miles ago. he has started it every evening, revved the arsehole out of it and turned it off. then when he got round to riding it he wondered why its popped.
I think i know why.... ____________________ Current : '08 Yamaha FZ1s
