I've just opened a letter, not addressed to me, but to my ex-lodger, and someone whom I have never heard of.
Mr.Someone I'd Never Heard of & Mr.ExLodger
My Address
Bedfordshire
| Quote: |
For the urgent attention of someone I'd never heard of
REMOVAL OF YOUR GOODS
Council Tax Debt - Northampton Borough Council
Your debt remains outstanding despite our previous application for payment.
Accordingly I will be calling, with transportation, to remove your goods during the course of this coming week. Goods will be removed wheter you are present or not, with the police in attendance if neccesary.
When seizing your goods, I will need to remove sufficient to cover the costs of removal and to clear your debt at public auction. The very significant costs of removal contractors and auctioneers will be deducated from the proceeds of the sale of your goods.
yours faithfully

Well, we owe no money. Except for the finance on our bike. We do own our house, and have the title deeds to it.
Can't get hold of anyone at the baliffs company to talk to on the phone.
How do I get these parasites off of my back, and are they allowed to force an entry - what with the new Civil Enforcement Officers?
I've no idea where my lodger moved to, and have never even heard of the other person who the letter was addressed to
I have been putting all of his mail back in the letter box, NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS etc, but I opened this one on purpose, as I knew it was from a baliffs, and was concerned. I've got the ex-lodgers mobile number, and left him a voice mail... but
funny thing is, he never even wanted his deposit back when he left, months ago |

fuck, sounds bad!
the thing is, surely its the person who's debt it is's items that get taken?
provided you can prove that they moved away and havnt lived there / own anything there, then theres fuck all they can do.

~Well, nothing in the house belongs to these debtors.
I guess, I'll try and phone them, the baliffs, on Monday, though talking to the brick wall in the garden will probably yield better results. Then I'l phone, I'll ride to Northampton Council and tell them too, may as well get some fun out of my bike. |

I am forever getting bailiffs letters here for previous tenants, always on the phone having rows, another 1 on the blower last week, telling me I had to prove who I was and he was coming in the house blah blah blah, I just tell them to try, lob a few obscenities in and tell them THEY have the wrong person, not my mistake so piss off.
One has come to the door so far and I told him to fuck off, aint heard back from any of them, they are cheeky and do not care who's debt it is as they just want money, so if they can frighten people into paying anyway they will. And also they have heard all the excuses under the sun from people actually in debt which is what makes them reluctant to believe you.
They are scum, most of them take pleasure in takings things from families, call themselves debt collectors when really they are bullies and cowards. |

agreed with Guv, they are particularly unpleasant people and have no interest in listening to what you have to say.
They make out they can do whatever they like to gain entry including drilling locks, breaking through window mechanisms etc.
Ring the council, and they will try to not be interested as they have by now already sold the debt to the debt collectors thereby washing their corrupt fingers of it. In my opinion that isn't good enough, so keep on at them.
And if the guys turn up, be as unpleasant to them as they are to you, and don't let them get a foot in the door.
The whole system stinks, and the way it is handled when someone doesn't pay stinks even more, sorry to hear you have to deal with it, we have been there ourselves. ____________________ So in other words, he stopped you for being flagrantly in posession of a motorcycle in direct contravention of the Hippies, Darkies and People Whose Face I Don't Like The Look of (Police Powers) Act. 1976 |

I've been waiting for the bailiffs to come round here, the lad who lived here before ran up thousands in debt and is now in the nick I believe.
Loads of letters threatening seizure of goods, aint seen a peep out of any of them yet.
Shame, I was looking forward to telling some scumbags to fuck right off. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

I am wondering woul this happen to me. I got a smmons in the post for the bill of £300,000 aprox in a persons name that lived here 6 years ago reason I opened it is that they have the same surname as my other half. I just phoned them and told them they aint lived here in years. Dont fancy having that tied to my house. As long as you can prove its your house and all I cant see how they can come near you. ____________________ All the breast.

You don't have to let them in.
As WildGoose said, it's pointless ringing the council, they won't be interested as it's already gone to the bailiff. I would however, write to them and point out that you are registered as living there and not Mr X and if anyone does come to your door, might be worthwhile showing them your driving licence and telling them to remove your address from their records. ____________________ 1st bike - Honda Rebel; 2nd bike - CBR125; next bike - husband's 'blade hehehehe

No, I am regsitered.
I sent this e-mail on sunday, obviously not this exact one!, using their client reference number as the subject heading. And to my utter suprise, got a reply saying to disregard the letter, and they'd update their records and look elsewhere.

Hello,
I've just opened a threatening letter from yourselves, addressed to my house, to someone I've never heard of, and my ex-lodger.
I OWN Baggins Hidey Hole, Bedford, MK40 1AA outright, and have the title deeds to it.
Nobody by the names of Mr.MCGoo or Mr.Christopher Bigins live here. I've never heard of Mr.Mcgoo& Mr.Biggins moved away in February 2008.
I have returned to sender, previous letters adddressed to these people from yourselves.
As far as I know, Mr.Biggins works as a prison officer at Toytown Nick, and has moved back to LaLa Land.
In your letter, you threaten to come to Baggins Hole , and remove by force the goods in it. DONT. I strongly advise against it, as everything in the house belongs to me. I'm completely innocent of any wrongdoing, and have no debts, and no connection with any of the debts or the debtors that you are chasing, except that I once let a room to Mr.Christopher Biggins.
regards

We have about 5 people who obviously have got themselves in a state of debt, they must have lived here before us and as yet haven't seen one bailiff.
Worked out that collectively they all owe about £25,000 on credit cards.
Though I have heard that it is illegal to open somebody else's private mail, but I reckon that's false. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Yes it is illegal to open post that is not addressed to you, technically if it is not delivered to the named recepient it belongs to the queen, lol.
