Well the R6 seems to be getting a hammering at the moment in terms of running problems, with cougs and that.

I think mine is also a bit out, I think it might be carbs after have the bike laid down a few times.

When i'm cruising along at a steady rpm, the bike seems to be "gurgley" the only way else I can describe it is like when the engine is being run in and feels tight. It just feels sluggish and wants to splutter but dosent.

What you guys think? Every since I had the casings smashed I can swear I hear "Noises" but don't we all after we brake our bikes? Rolling Eyes

Have you tried a carb balance mate?
Carbs can be knocked out of sync on a drop.....

Checked the plugs? One or more could be fouled...

Has it had a good service lately?

Maybe just try flushing the oil out, run for a few mins - with new oil, drain and fill with new oil again.

This should take a lot of any bits that "may" be in there mate.

When were the carbs last balanced?

But as you say it could just be the paranoia we all suffer - I hear noises from my bike that I'm sure shouldn't be there but Keith said it sounded fine so it must be fine. Very Happy (Guess I'm just used to car engines that rev out when my bike is starting to make its power. Laughing )

It has not been serviced since new. I have done 6.5k now as well. I got to have some warranty work done soon so was going to look at a service at the same time, for a mere £200. Shocked My Karma is worse than a yo-yo at the moment!

Mate, it's over due a good service then.

Do it yourself not that hard to be honest - oil, plugs, filters and then get the carbs balanced if you cant borrow a set of gauges yourself!

Rather let the boys do it! I know its done right then and keeps the warranty intact plus needs some other bits doing!

By leaving it 6,500 miles from new to get it serviced has fucked your warrenty anyway.

I'm not too far mate if you need a hand, I have a Morgan Carbtune II if you would like to borrow it.

I'm pretty sure that changing the oil and servicing it yourself doesn't void the warranty

I always do it myself to make sure its done right. Don't take my car or bikes to anyone to get fixed. Seriously it's better to do it yourself, you get to know your bike on a more personal level and you know when its done right Very Happy

I tend to make things worse when I try to fix them, well my bikes anyway. I still haven't managed to tighting the head bearing even after doing it twice, (1st time I made it worse).

changed the oil, couldn't get the sump off! Managed to lose loads of screws and forgot to put a screw back in the engine, so I left it out! Bike still seems ok! Razz

lost a part of the gearbox into the engine when I tried to rebuild my KE100 and stuff like that.

Managed to change the subframe and stuff, but I wont touch carbs and balancing them. Plus I cant get the plugs out!

Oh dear lol

So, you've had those plugs for over 6000miles now?

As for balancing carbs, I'm not too fond of it, especially the screw-in adaptor type a la R6 Shocked

Yeah thats quite high mileage for a sparker. Get a new set and you'll notice the difference straight away. Also, you should check your air filters as they tend to drain power from your bike as they get blocked up. They are easy to check/change, even a complete idiot could do it Razz

Well, it's down to how well you look after your bike, I usually change plugs every 5k or so (or whenever they need changing when I get roudn to checking them Razz ), but the way you say your bike is running sounds like a duff plug causing one of the cylinders to misfire....hence the gurgling (unburnt petrol) and sluggishness (the misfiring piston slowing the others down)

Have you *really* tried to get the plugs out?

I should imagine that taking off the tank and the seat would make it easier to take the spark plugs out. Just make sure you remember to switch the petrol valve off before removing the pipe!

Good luck whatever you do... Thumbs Up

You'll 100% notice difference by a service.

Do plugs, air filter, oil, oil filter etc.

If you can polish rims and do nice tarty stuff, you must be able to do the general service things?

I'm sure a spark plug will last longer than 6000 miles (in a 4 stroke), infact I'm sure the 6000 miles is just inspect and gap the spark plugs and change if necessary.

I think on the CBR its 8000 or 12000 mile service that actually changes the plugs.

either way, get the service done - if you must take it to the garage mate take it (least your happy that its been done right then opposed to you ham fisting it up).

Though you will save a good bit of money doing it yourself (hardest part will be balancing the carbs), in your tool kit for the bike (if you have one) you should have a tool to remove the spark plugs.

500 miles is enough for Yamaha to turn around and say that you have invalidated your warranty. The number of miles or time limit to the next service is supposed to be an absolute maximum AFAIK, and I usally get my bikes done a bit early if possible.

Although, I can't see them *actually*holding you to it, because you could conceivably been on a 3000 mile touring holiday in the alps! Smile

If I really wanted I could do it myself just don't have the time. I work to 8pm most days and I don't have a garage to work in so when It rains it will cause havoc.

Carbs could prob do, just don't want to chance it plus I don't have all the right tools.

I have an haynes manual but don't fancy taking off the tank and stuff as keep losing bits.

Rather do it right 1st time, then bodge it and have to take it somewhere to get them to look at it.

Fair enough - get it to a garage and get it serviced then mate. Hopefully will feel a lot better afterwards. Very Happy

Nothing more embarassing than having to admit to a dealer that you 'bodged it and it broke' Confused I think that's the recognised cue to begin rip-off proceedings tbh...

Anyway, Stu give your bike a good dealer service and I bet she'll be fine Thumbs Up

I'm not sure about the Yamaha dealer in Soton, but the Kawasaki Dealer in Portswood I always goto, best service and a very honest...I have the feeling that I'm not going to be ripped off when I go there (unlike other places in Portswood Evil or Very Mad )

Yeah but saying that he still has problems and it's worth doing the easiest thing to see if it works. Sparkers are the first things I change when the bike feels grotty.

Parkrd powerbikes is not too bad tbh. I brought the bike new there and they kept it until I paid for it in full (couldn't get credit so they kept until payment finished) and the bike I got is the sons best mates old bike, so I don't think it be butchered.
