 |
|
Stuck my 08 Aprilia RSVR in for its first service yesterday, with lets say a few hiccups.
Inmoto Croydon
First of all i phoned up and promised a loan bike, so i dropped the rsvr off and they realised im 20 then said we cant give you a bike, not even a 50cc.
So i ended up getting the bus, which is fair enough, but they could of at least told me what bus to get or tell me where to go, picked the bike up today and me expected £80 MAX having owned Jap bikes thats what you expect for a first service, even Ducati arnt that expensive for a first service.
But i was handed a bill for £236, which ended up in a huge argument about what the hell costs that on a first service and why they need 3 hours labour at £50 to do what is basically a glorified oil change.
Apparently they check the valves on a first service, i rang another dealer and asked and said yes, but they should of asked you wether or not you wanted them to be checked as its a £150+ job.
I think the dealer saw i was young and is taking me for a ride, he even tried to state during the argument i dont even have a license to ride the RSVR (ive been riding since 17 and had a full license since 19).
Im really unsure where to go on this, im going to try and reclaim 1.5 hours of labour (£75), on the grounds i should have been asked if i wanted valves checked at 600 miles !!!!. ____________________ Ducati 1299 Panigale

Wave it looks like you have a potential case under the common law of past consideration.
from wiki
For example, if X promises to reward Y for an act that Y had already performed, the performance of that act, while good consideration for the promise to be rewarded for it, is past consideration and therefore not good consideration. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. That sounds quite harsh although if I ever get any work done to my bike I always ensure I know what they are doing and get an idea of how much it will cost.
That way Idont get a shock and they cant run up a huge bill for silly things.
Hope you manage to get your money back though |

I only said potential,
in that if the manual states it needs its valves checked, other dealers agree that it needs its valves checked, and the valves checked is a service that is performed at the first service , then asking for a first service means having the valves checked.
But if you asked for an oil change specifically and they did the valves too , they did something past consideration and thus you don't have to pay for the valves bit. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Age discrimination at its best.
How do i go about claiming from them, if they refuse tomrrow, also i wanna be slightly clued up when i ring them. |
Nope, that fits in entirely with what I would expect from a dealer, especially a franchised dealer, especially an Aprillia dealer.
I'm surprised they didn't just kick you in the balls then rub dogshit in your face while you were down for daring to ask them to service your bike in the first place. Especially considering the vast majority of dealers do the first service for free.
You've bought the bike, now fuck off, why should someone as high and mighty as a motorcycle dealer waste their time with someone who just spent several thousand pounds on a new motorcycle from them. Get real, you're not going to be buying another one for a while so why should they bother with you?
Wait 'till you need parts and god help you if you need anything repaired under warranty.

Valve clearances at 600 miles?
That is a fine example of urine removal. Get a copy of the dealers workshop manual (must be one on-line) and check it for yourself. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F
