I was going through a 40mph road yesterday and was doing nearly 50mph before the camera. I slowed myself with the back brake just before (back brake light is not working at the moment) going through the camera and looked down and found I was doing just over 40 mph halfway through the camera lines. i glanced into my mirror and THINK i may of been flashed as it was sunny yesterday so my view was not the best.

my question is if I have been flashed when would I expect to see something in the post? if I do get somethign I rekon it would be something like 43mph in a 40 zone. what would I be expecting to get points wise.

I might be paranoid but rather be prepared for the worst rather than just shruggin it off.

The lowest they can do you for is around 46 as I got through on my NIP. They give a 10% give and add 2mph on top. 35 in a 30, 46 in a 40, etc

If you have been flashed you might get an NIP within 2 weeks.

Could have been a dummy one.

Don't you have a blue Hornet? Thinking

If so you should've pinned it as you would've been too fast for the camera to see Thumbs Up Cool Thumbs Up

You'd think that wouldn't you. However, there was a camera in Telford a bit back that was run by the council and so didn't have to follow ACPO guidelines.

Given speedos usually read a bit over you may be ok if the needle was hovering in the mid 40s.

As said the +10%+2mph 'rule' gives the minimum speed for prosecution, not the maximum speed you can travel without prosecution (as most people tend to think).

HTH Thumbs Up

Isn't that the same thing?

As for recieving anything in the post, if you don't recieve an NIP within 14 days, you're off the hook even if it arrives after. There are exceptions however, i.e. if the bike isn't registered to you.

Err, NO.
You can travel at 45mph in a 40 zone and not be prosecuted. Travel at 46mph in the 40 zone and you can be prosecuted.

Hope that clarifies Thumbs Up

14 working days, but have to allow 3 days after that for the post to deliver it, as they have 14 days for it to leave their office, not 14 days for it to land on your doormat

Not correct either. You can be prosecuted for travelling even 41mph in a 40mph zone. However, most guidelines advise setting the cameras higher than this. It's not called a 40mph speed limit for nothing. If you could not be prosecuted under 46mph then it would be a 45mph speed limit. The law says you're not allowed to go over the upper limit at all.

As above the 10%+2mph is just a guideline nothing more the speed can be set at 31,41 etc.

Speedo's over read anyway so if your speedo says 40mph chances are your doing about 38-39 anyway and safe from being flashed.

I believe it has to be on your doormat within 14 days, as it has to be "served" within 14 days. thats what pepipoo says anyhow Smile

There was one in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough that was notoriously sensitive.

Can be on your doormat in 20/30/40 days as long as it was posted in the first 14 days it doesn't matter.

Speedos aren't supposed to be allowed to under-read at all, though I suspect mine does by a few mph.

Nope, must recieve it within 14 days of the commission of the offence. See section 1 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.
