Have to watch this video to understand what i'm about to say;
https://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1138292711/bctid1453986818

I knew chris when was young, used to play football with him and get upto no good as our crowed would. It was some time ago that he had is accident and i did then and still do feel sorry for him, but i wonder where the line is drawn, when someone doesnt deserve sympathy.

I never really liked chris, mostly because he was sneeky. It was always the small things, like flicking a load of flem on his best friends back when he wasnt looking, or cutting other friends shit deals on weed. Sure non of us were perfect but what really wound me up was the day a kitten come walking over to us and for no reason he kicked the thing so hard it spun round a few times before hitting the kerb.

But that was what he was like, we all knew it, but being a dick never seemed to be a bad thing, just meant you had the balls to do something that others probably wouldn't...

I dunno why i had to say all this now, after so many years, i just want the world, or at least a small part to know that he wasnt such a nice guy as Amir thinks he is. If they all knew the things i did about him would they be willing to help out. I told the cat story to a few animal lovers and their opinions of his instantly changed. Not to the point they were glad of whats happened to him, more one of, well he's got a wicked streak but its still not a horrific thing to happen to a 20something.

So anyway, should i of kept this to myself, the past is the past?

Sometimes people can change after they become disabled, sometimes for the better and sometimes they get much worse.

Looks like karma for the kitten has already caught up with him huh? Funny how some things happen.

You don't have to like him just because he had an accident and is in a chair now. On the other hand you don't know whether being in the chair has changed his whole attitude to life.

*shrugs*

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

At least one thing, he won't be kicking anymore kittens.

No you don't have to feel sorry for him, and you certainly don't have to like him. He is living his life to the best of his ability, he has a house that is built just for him, more than many disabled people get, he has had his 5 minutes of fame and he is the centre of attention. Sounds really as if nothing has changed for him, apart from the loss of use of his limbs.

Sorry am I being spiteful or nasty?

Do people honestly believe in karma and what comes around goes around. The millions of kids who haven't lived long enough or grown up enough to be capable of doing anything bad or evil yet still die or get mamed by illnesses and the like would indicate there is no such thing.

On the point of this story, he was paralysed in a rugby accident, but he's set up a charity to build him a massive new house with every technical feature possible to make his life great (or as great as it can be), interesting take on the concept of charity IMO.

Liking someone who is disabled is the same as liking anyone.

Liking some BECAUSE they are disabled is discrimination.

Did anyone else not quite get the point of his charity?
I thought at first it was a house for loads of disabled people to use and share, but then they said it was his. Neutral

It's all nice and that, but why the massive recognition, when to be quite blunt about it, it's pretty selfish. There's loads of disabled people out there who don't even get a second look.

On a vaguely related topic. Two stories in the news recently.

One of a mentally handicapped girl who was repeatedly raped but no one was prosecuted because she was an unreliable witness. Cue outrage, hysteria etc. This is not justice, we demand justice for her.

The second of a Downs syndrome lad charged with racially aggrivated assault for shoving a girl over at school and calling her 'black face'. Cue outrage, hysteria etc. This is unbelievable, he didn't know what he was doing, how dare they charge this person with a crime.

So, what happens if a Downs syndrome bloke rapes a mentally handicapped woman?

Truth to tell, there is every chance that this is actually what happened.

If I want sympathy my friends are fond of pointing out that I will find it in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.

Aspurgers Syndrome (A mild form of Autism) is considered a behavioural/learning disability, I have it yet it hardly effects me at all. I've allways been open about it but I don't expect people to like or dislike me becuase of it.

My grandmother died of cancer, my Aunt beat cancer and so I get really offended when people joke about it or wish it upon someone for something petty.
However I am evil so if somebody did something really bad to me or my family I would give them cancer if I had the means to.

I don't know Chris obviously, and though I have no reason to doubt what you're saying. I could'nt make a judgement on a person I don't know like that.
From what you've told us, I've known people that can be just like that, yes its shitty behaviour, not nice at all really but most people grow out of it. I would'nt wish someone into a wheelchair for that, and as Yam says he may have changed/ matured.
However if he kicked my dogs say when I had them, I would have stabbed him in the neck... end of.

Bah, its always pulled out to get sympathy or sway decisions.

My dad always tells a story of a complete dickhead he knew, really spiteful bastard too. Used to give everyone a load of mouth, and one day he got escorted out of a ground floor club via 10 flights of stairs (if you catch my drift).

Anyway, next day the papers are full of;

'Poor epileptic boy, victimised by bullying bouncers because hes different'.

Rolling Eyes

That said, one of the sweetest girls i've ever worked with was deaf. She was a good laugh, but there were plenty of times SHE actually pointed out that she couldn't do X/Y/Z when job allocations came about.

I'm all for disabled people being given a /little/ bit of leeway, but half of this bullshite is just over-reactive pandering.

In this case though, you knew him as a cock before the accident. As has been said, that kind of stuff profoundly changes people. Although he did seem to be soaking that pandering up damn happily.

That was simply a news report to show that if you do become disabled you can sort yourself out. Getting together to round up some pennies means he can have a decent life.

As or him personally it's just amusing and slightly embaressing now that his attitude has totally changed. Funny how taking a guys balls away turns you into a soppy twat.

Some of the comments have been interesting to read, thanks for the replies.

Was quite apprehensive about writing it in the first place, felt as though the things i wanted to say would never be taken very well considering the way his is viewed in the local media here, it's always poor chris that needs support..well that video said it all i guess..

Anyway was good to get it off my chest, sure he has changed alot since those days, but still hard to shake the memory of chris that i have.

It was the rugby club which got the ball rolling on fund raising for him an the more they did for him the more the media paid attention and so on.. thats how he ended up getting his own house knocked up, but true that there's alot of disabled that are not given a fraction of the attention or fund raising he did, regardless of the type of person they are...
