Hi

Not something I have heard of happening often. I would think the big end bearing would need to be really badly worn to do that.

Looks like it is well on the way to being fixed.

All the best

Keith

ilovens125f's,

If you need any parts, I have a complete 2nd hand bottom end I'm selling.

It needs to have the kick starter gears reconnected and the clutch put back together and the side casings. I have all the parts if your interested.

Ian.

Richard,

Yes, you should get them, Post Office said 2 - 3 days, so with luck Monday the latest.

Bits of the bike, yes I got a few items left, like Radiator, carbs, wheels + tyres, 2-stroke oil bottle and sender, clocks (NS125F), forks, and rear swinging arm, wiring harness, and some other bits.

I think I'd be having words with the person you bought it off.

As for the NS, I had problems with mine but only due to a broken oil pump. Engine ran dry and the con rod just got mangled and I found myself pushing it down the A19 for the rest of my journey.

Hope you get the bike sorted soon. Thumbs Up

Hi

I would try a new spark plug, and make sure the choke is turned off (and check at the carb end that it has turned off, not just the lever on the bars).

All the best

Keith

ok 3 hours later stuck under a lamp taking bikes apart........

seems to get good compression
definitely got spark
stripped and rebuilt carb and can see my face in it
adjusted up throttle cable

and for the bad news.......

found that choke has no cable in it could that explain why it won't start? (i couldn't think how)

could i have a sticking valve? (never encountered before so not sure bout the symptons) and if so will my engine be wrecked by now?

haven't checked air filter yet but that can't make much difference right?

cheers for all the posts guys, only been a member for one night and i already got loads of information (and a haynes manual thanks to a really nice guy).

Oh well uni tommorrw so won't get to start work again til bout eight.

Thanks

Tom

p.s. nsr and f front fairings are different right? i'm sure i have an nsr fairing on mine (which i'm definitely not complaining about)

And it will be no more than asking him if he has any ideas why this has happened. Bikes sold privately are sold as seen and that means exactly that, if it dies at the bottom of their drive it's nothing to do with them. Unless you've been misled with the advert (them saying "good condition" is open to interpretation) you can't do anything. It is worth asking them if they have any ideas if your stuck after trying the things mentioned here but don't be aggressive as you're wanting them to try and help you.

point taken. The funniest thing about the day was that the breakdown service my insurance got me turned out to be the same people i bought the bike from in the first place so i got to have a good long chat on the way home. Turns out he doesn't know that much himself hand for about three years and its been stood for two

They could be the piston rings, bits of big end bearing, bits of main bearing, bits of the head.

Whatever they are, its a bad thing. You got sold a dud. Did it have any 2 stroke oil in the bottle?

Hi

If there is metal there then it has come from somewhere. Chances are that it is the piston, with a ring failing. Next most likely would be the circlips that hold the piston onto the gudgeon pin. Next up would be a big end bearing or main bearing that has failed in style.

Whichever it is you will need to remove the barrel and have a look. Once the barrel is off you can check the piston properly (and check the condition of the barrel) and also feel for vertical play in the con rod.

All the best

Keith

barrel is almost off but have rounded the last bolt. Oh well i'm sure a bit of hammering will do the trick. I have never done this before so any tips on what i'm looking for would be great. Also any ideas as to price (i think piston rings are most likely) and where to get em.

thanks
tom

ok after looking at it in the light (i should really get some lights in my garage), it looks like some kinda residue (i.e. not metal) still trying to get the last bolt off so i can remove the barrel. I getting really confused over this now any ideas?

The bits of metal sound like the small end bearing, Mine went like that and shot up the side of the barrel and smashed up the top of the head.
