Hello,

Just thought I would ask a this question to find out if you guys all have cars as well as bikes. I have a car at the moment but would like a bike, but due to short funds it would make more sense to sell my car .

Got 2 bikes, well one and a half as well as the Type R.

Insurance, tax and servicing does certainly cost a fair few bob.

Nice - which do you prefer? Do you think you could do without the car?

Need a car for sure with kids, but could quite happily live without it if needed. Saying that, I'd be after a better bike instead of forking out for the car in that instance.

I said yes, but it's essentially the family's car well more specifically the wife's, though I did use it today as the bike was having it's brakes sorted.

I'm gonna get riped for this.

I have a Seat Leon TDI to get me to work and a "Classic" MX-5 for the weekend as well as a bike.

I am also the only full licence holder in the house, so they are all mine.

To be fair, the MX-5 used to be my mum's "toy" but she never used it, so I borrowed it for the weekend 3 years ago...
(do have to tax, insture and run it now though)

Don't own one but have access to one which is tbh the ideal situation.

I am getting myself a reliant soon though hopefully but imo that doesn't count Shifty

I own a 'cheap' economical 1.3 toyota corolla, 'cheap' to run and 'cheap' insurance. Use it when transporting others, grocery shopping and picking up/taking my 6 year old sister out during weekends etc.

And have my CBR125 to commute with during weekdays and for 'fun' at weekends.

Yes, expensive all together, but more reasonable/affordable when your insurance renewals are due at different times of the year- for me, Car insurance is due in June, Bike insurance in Jan.

Don't think i could live without the car, certainly couldn't live with just a bike!

Hey,
I dont actually own another car but i have use of one. After my mum got ill and had her licence revoked i got to use her Rover 25. Good for going snowboarding, avoiding getting soaked on the way to work, etc.

Hopefully buying my sisters little Fiat ?chinquiento? off her for £300 in a months time. Cars for me are more about practicality than anything else. However i must say the little chinq is actually very fun to drive!! Very much like a grown up bumper car!

Shaun.

The last car I owned was a FIAT Cinquecento SX I loved it, but sold it on eBay when I took up contracting, when I returned to 9-5 I bought a bike. Mr. Green

I've got 2 Morris Minors ('70 2-dr, '69 4-dr). I wouldn't want to be without a car to be honest.

I'm greedy and I have 2 cars plus a bike.

1994 Toyota Carina E 1.6XLI in white with 90k.

2005 Peugeot 206SW 1.4HDi in Silver with 76k company car.

2000 Kawasaki ER5 A4 in Burgundy/rust mix with 24.5k.

All practical in their own unique way. There's numerous reasons as to why I do not sell the Toyota when I have a company car.

No, Would like one though, but I'm young and insurance is crazy money. Looking to learn soon just from my dad so I don't have to pay for lessons.

Reasons like what stelmer? (genuinely interested - it's hard not to sound sarcastic on a forum)

I actually have 2 bikes right now. Though one is a courtesy bike they've not taken back yet. YBR 125 and my own GSXR 400. For me, commuting to college, a part time job and socially, the bike is perfect and oh so fun. It's also practical as I can take it to uni when I go in september, as there isn't much room for cars on campus.

After uni however, I fully intend to get a car. Doing the whole bike gear/getting cold and wet/getting knocked off alot/not being able to carry much is all fine at the moment while I'm young and have the novelty and coolness of it all to make it worth it. But when I'm older and just need transport I'll definitely need a car.

Will still keep the bike of course. Wink

You asked for it now Whistle Laughing

My Toyota Vs Work's Peugeot:

Arrow Peugeot is too small and is full of work junk. Resembles a rag and bone man's truck....

Arrow I can take passengers in the Toyota.

Arrow Toyota is more reliable and quicker. Work cars keep breaking and now I don't trust them.

Arrow I refuse to give work the pleasure in deducting private mileage from my wage. I'd rather spend it on my own car.

Arrow Passed the point of no return with the Toyota in terms of servicing and resale value. It is not worth selling. I owe no finance on it either. Bike has done this too now.

Arrow I wanna see how long the Toyota lasts before it does need to go. Same with the bike.

Arrow Only good thing about works' car is the Air Con. However the Toyota has 4 electric windows and a sunroof.

Arrow I couldn't part with the Toyota now anyway. It's a part of the family lol. The Peugeot is the unwanted lodger. Laughing

I only have the bike. Looking to get a car license in the summer and depending on insurance I might get one. Otherwise I'll just get named driver on my fiancee's Daewoo Lanos.

I only have my bike and do not have a car licence.

I want to do my car test this year to get it out of the way. I dont really want a car right now. I dont have much money to spend on one and would rather spend it on a bike. I see being able to drive a car as a valuable skill, but I dont have much interest in owning a car until I 'need' to.
