My wallet got hammered a little today.
After the cheap and cheerful Aldi lid went the way of the Dodo, the relegated Takachi was promoted and its was like wearing a pair of old socks, a little loose and not quite as comfy as when new.
Went to a local Honda dealer that I've got plenty of well made budget gear from in the past. Checked there website and was interested in the Nolan lids.
When I arrive, no Nolan to try on!
I then continue to stick my head into every S, M, L helmet that I can to try and ascertain which make fits the best.
Nitro
No, just didn't feel right same as the Shark lids that I tried on
Roof
A complete inappropriate fit around the checks which is a shame as I do like the Boxer for the fighter pilot look.
Caberg
Had a V2 and would liked the tinted screen but too big and clumsy at speed. The Justimisso or whatsyoucallit was an ok fit, but the Trip was like a diffrent brand as the fit was completely different and uncomfortable and had a harsh liner.
Feeling a little defalted I headed off to www.harpersraceshop.co.uk in Leigh-On-Sea as the have a much larger range.
I spent the next 30-45 minutes wandering round and round the displays looking at the various makes. It seemed all the makes from cheap to expensive from HJC to Arai and KBC to AGV still no proper fit until I tried on a Shoei.
I didn't really want to try on the lid as it was certainly more expensive than I wanted to pay but as part of being fair to all I picked up a XR1000 and my immediate words muttered were 'fuck, fuck, fuck', it fitted like a glove!
I deliberated and conjurtated by trying on a few other models and again they all slipped on a treat and felt good.
I went back to looking at the other brands but kept being drawn back to the Shoei, so one final deep breathe in and went to the check out.
£329 for the lid as well as an extra £17 for a tinted pinlock insert.

Matching helmet and bike
The lid is light and the fit is amazing and buffering at speed was kept to a minimum despite having the old helmet in the tank bag on the trip home.
The helmet does of course have some wind noise, a little harsh above a ton so for a long distance ride ear plugs may be a must.
I may have to practice the double D chip strap as its a new one on me, but again I'm converted immediately by the comfort compared to the buckle of previously owned helmets.
Only downside was the fact that I had to go home rather than stay out and play on what is a lovely sunny day, just when the Corsa III were starting to come into there own even for a Nancy like me. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Great Lid,
I'm a bit like that too, I go in with the intention of buying something for £20 and come out with something that cost £200.
Hopefully it should protect your head a little better than an aldi special anyway. |

Ive had a XR1000 for just over a year now and all good things to say about it.
Having a naked bike and it not being that quiet its really loud about a ton like you said and no way sustainable, even with ear plugs!!
Im quite tempted by the wister kit if i go touring again, combined with a screen for the four thing a big difference can be made!
A pic says 1000 words (found on photobucket when it was new and arai visor, long story)

It's a terrible shame that i don't use my XR1000 anymore. It's used as a "spare lid" much to my dismay. But it was a splendidly light lid, pinlock works, vents are very effective and was very stable at speed. Wind noise was a problem, but my Arai is just as bad. Ear plugs are a must. There is also no chin curtain as standard which miffed me off and i was expecting to see a fully removable liner. Come on Shoei, you're putting together a good sports lid which is bound to be used in all weathers etc and you don't bother with putting a chin curtain, breath guard as standard. It was a sin with the liner which i found unforgiveable because there was some space on my crown which meant that the fit from the factory was not going to be as good as I thought it would be - my fault for wearing a bandana and having long hair when i first tried the lid out.
Good lids mind. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Watched your review on youtube and have to say quite informative. Picked up on some views of other helmet shop stockist and then some.
Lets hope that the weathers just as nice tomorrow so I can have a little play on the way home from work.
Haven't tried them on with my funky leather suit yet, may be a little too nauseating to be honest. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Let me know how the tinted pinlock inserts do. I always, for some reason preferred to get a tinted visor and get a second clear pinlock and use that in the visor. I used to simply swap the pinlocks over from the clean to tinted, although i would advise against this because you'd need to be adjusting the eccentric posts to ensure a tight seal.
On my arai, because i often found the pinlock pins distracting (same on the shoei), i opted to get a fog city so that it wouldn't distract my peripheral vision. But in the end, i found that pinlock works better than fog city due to the better seal ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Never really had a problem with misting and being better weather may not see the results yet but the dark insert seems quite good. Not as dark as could be but sunglass' dark. For £20 can easily see what suits best on the road rather than the £50 for a visor.
Why I've never had a double D before now is a mystery, its so much easier! ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy
