Mini rant: Farmers and shite on the road.

So I go out for a bit of a hoon and come up behind some old gimp traveling at 15mph on a vintage tractor that belongs in several skips. It's ok, the sun is out, the birds are singing and I've not got too many flies spattered across my visor just yet. I follow it for a bit, not wanting to overtake because all my mates who have crashed so far have done so into the side of various farm vehicles turning right without indicating or looking. I'm still in a good mood. Then said pond-dweller turns off into a field and I'm off. No problem....

Except when I return from my ride later in the evening along the same road, it's now covered in crap. Big, sticky, deep lines of crud, coming from the field where Giles turned off earlier.

I thought farmers had a responsibility to clean their vehicles before they use public roads? If they don't and they're reported, I reckon they should be fined. I'm going to report last nights find to my local highways dept, but I strongly suspect I'll get laughed at. Anyone else want to share?

Yup.

Annoying, but they have a job to do and having them remove any mud from a tractor before leaving their field isn't really practical, they'd need to jet wash it or sumsuch.

What annoys me are tractors on the city bypass during rush hour, why do they do this? Also, builders rubble falling off lorries at site entrances. Its not unreasonable to expect them to secure their load before leaving the site.

Its unrealistic to expect rural roads to be spotless all the time, how exactly would you have the bit of mud cleaned up?

Someone waddling about with a brush or some sort of sweeper following tractors everytime in & out of a field?

Country roads have mud on them - just a plain fact.

If farmers have to start cleaning roads every time they move a tractor or other vehicle then everyone would be up in arms about the increase in food costs needed to pay for it.

Also the just cleaned roads would catch you out with them being wet while the rest of the road you're tearing along is dry.

The mucky bits of road should be signposted.

How odd, I was just about to start a thread about this myself. The worst is pushing it round a corner (yes they have corners tight enough to push a 50 ) and having to suddenly avoid some horse shi*e. I swear next time I see someone dropping it I'll cave their heads in, gets on my tits.

And it is their job to do it, impracticality is no excuse.
