Certificate proves fuck all. It means nothing. The only thing that shows is that you payed stupid amounts of money for a few washers. Meaning you got anally raped without lube.
Legally, the bike does have to be restricted but it can be done by any means as long as it produces no more than 33BHP when run on a dyno. Can be a throttle stop or you can try making your own washers.
The FI Restriction costs around the 200-300 mark or something and all you get is some washers and a red "certificate"
Try finding other ways of getting it restricted if you want to but don't go down the FI route. ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Nope you won't.
If the police do believe it isn't restricted they will take the bike away to be dyno'd. Even if you have the certificate. I have a certificate as I got my Hornet restricted but I took the carbs out. The certificate proves nothing.
Plus most of the police don't actually know about this particular law.
The bike just has to produce 33bhp or less. In whatever way. ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Oh and insurance companies, some do require proof but the two that I used didn't. And if they require proof just get a dyno printout of your bike pushing no more than 33BHP.
If they don't accept it and want the "certificate" then just use another insurance company. You pay 250 quid for that piece of red paper. So add that to the company's premium if they ask for the actual certificate rather than proof of less than 33BHP. ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Your right hand The most sensible restriction method ever created by nature
Or if you're picky you can have throttle stops made. Just find out where the bike makes 33BHP and have one made for that amount of revs. Or something along those lines ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Hi
How to restrict it? Likely to depend on the carb used. With a basic slide carb quite possible the easiest way is some rubber tubing on the throttle cable between the cap on the carb and the carb slide, preventing you opening the throttle fully. On a carb with some kind of external linkage the probably easiest to put some kind of bracket on that to stop it opening fully.
With a slide carb it is likely that using the FI type washers after the carb would make it run badly.
All the best

Yep, sounds about right, a carb stop? I guess it could well be something that stops the butterflys opening all the way like on my old bike. ____________________ My Flickr |

If they want to dyno it, they will, no amount of paper is going to stop them.
If you aren't restricted you're just playing the numbers game. I wasn't restricted for part of my last year and I got away with it. It's up to the OP to decide if it's worth being un-restricted though. ____________________ My Flickr |
