 |
|
My uncle recently returned from a local BMW dealership in a particularly smug mood with a BMW 330. The reason being ever since I got into riding road bikes I took the piss out of him because my aunt wouldn't let him get a motorcycle (playing the 'we have children & I don't want them fatherless' card can be a cruel thing).
He's smug because he thinks his BMW has what it takes to beat the CBR. The BMW is a 55 plate and from what I'm told it shares the same engine the M3 of that age does however I assume it's not as tweaked and therefore less powerful, it also runs it's drive through an auto gearbox (another disadvantage?). The thing that has me slightly puzzled is it's an 'M Sport', I'm not entirely sure what this means but from what I saw from the car it seems to be an aesthetic thing as it shares the M3 body kit minus the chrome side grill/breather.
Both the vehicles are factory stock, no performance enhancements on either of them.
Anyway back to the point, I really want to kick his cars ass with my much cheaper and older sports bike, just to prove to him once and for all bikes are way cooler than cars. So what I'd like to know is if we were to straight-line drag from standstill on a long 'track' officer, who do you guys think would win. Thanks for any replies, as always...
P.S I was also curious as to whether the Tyga kit would make any difference in increasing the speed slightly, from what I'm told the plastics are quite a bit lighter than the factory fairings and are also based on more modern, more aerodynamic fairings. (I know any change wouldn't be particularly huge). ____________________ I Ride: Honda CBR 400RR.

the bike will do 140 flat out once unrestricted and 0-60 in about 4 seconds
the cage will do around 150 and 0-60 in about 7 seconds. There are several models, most are listed here: https://www.carspecsdirectory.com/BMW.htm
you should beat him, but he will gradually creep up and eventually inch past you, depending on how long the erm, track is.
In the real world, you paid far less for a vehicle that is faster from a standing start, has virtually the same top speed, doesn't get stuck in traffic and achieves far better fuel economy |

Another vote for '0-100 bike wins' here.
To guarantee your victory - just before the race starts, ask your Uncle to show you how the indicators work on his Bee-Em. Like most beemer owners, he won't have a fucking clue about indicating (as no BMW ever indicates, ever!), and in the meantime you can clear off into the distance.

From a standing start the 400 would be about 2 miles ahead of the BMW before the BMW exceeded the 400's top speed!
They would then continue along for about another 5 miles before the BMW eventually crept up on the 400 and slowly overtook it!
Definately the 400 offers more speed in more circumstances, and more thrills than the BMW. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

The 2005 330 M sport has a 3 litre straight 4, the M3 of the same year has a 3.2 litre straight 6, so the motor's aren't even similar.
As has been said the M3 puts out 100 bhp more.
He's driving a tarted up 330Ci, get over it.
