Help me cheer up my fiance?!

Right, Shell and I have just gone past the 3 year milestone and of late she has been quite down.

She isn't enjoying her current physiotherapy placement and missing the niceties of living in the country / near to a beach. Coupled with the fact I haven't been a bundle of joy recently, I have just had exams and have been relatively stressed. We are struggling somewhat financially at the moment and it is not necessarily taking it's toll on the relationship which is I think as strong as ever, however our enjoyment out of it isn't great.

She rang me up about an hour ago in tears, so this has kicked me into some sort of effort to make things better.

I'm not going to my Military fitness class tonight, instead I will go for a run in a couple of hours, so that I don't feel guilty and then i'll cook her tea as always for when she gets home.

However I want to do something this evening as our life has become somewhat of a routine of late due to the obvious lack of funds. It feel like there is nothing to do around Coventry that doesn't cost a lot of money to do, we have done the country parks for walks, but they just don't cut it like strolling along chesil beach.

So basically, I need ideas for something to do this evening. I don't have much money, but I do have a car so can travel within reason and we shouldn't be back late cause she is up early tomorrow. I am taking her back to Somerset for the bank holiday weekend, but I'd like to do something tonight, don't feel the boquet of flowers will do the trick this time.

Being spontaneous is the key mate. Do something that she might like to do and she wouldn't even think of you doing it; this should help the situation.

I know that you said money is an issue but the cinema is something you could do; or you could go camping for a night somewhere with her?

Already thought of the cinema, but there is nothing good on at the cinema. Besides, we go cinema quite often anyway.

I've been having the same problem with my girlfriend of two and a half years.

I've found that even though it's nice for just the two of you to go out; going out with a few other friends might help a lot; it should take the pressure off of you a little as well. Simply going out for a drive or even buying a few disposable barbeques and going to a country park or something could be cool?

What pisses me off is that it always seems like the guy has to try and take control of a bad/boring situation and come up with something good; it never seems to be a two way thing..hmm sorry just thinking out loud

Why don't you cook tea when she gets in, rather than having it ready for when she gets home? That way you get to play around a bit in the kitchen and talk a bit as well, rather than just sitting and eating at the table straight away like normal/ routine. Just little things like you chop up some veg for example and ask for a 'helping hand', which actually means 'hug me from behind while i do this' and then ask her how her day went and she can vent a bit if need be. Sit her on the kitchen side while you wait for something to cook in the oven and give her a glass of wine while you rub her feet. Do a really bad impression of a french chef to make her laugh, and to top off the cheese go to the microwave and pull out a red rose 'that you made earlier'. Just try little things to make her forget how down she feels for tonight.

Once you've eaten, you could take her out for desert to a restaurant. It's a bit backward but it's fun! That way you get to take her out, it wont cost a much as a full meal, and you get a sugary pick me up as well. If you dont fancy that though you could run her a nice bubble bath, feed her chocolate (or her fav treat) and act as her man servant. That way she gets whatever she wants and is all relaxed for bed and hopefully should get a good night sleep for her early start tomorrow.

Take it from me....i've been in a 7 year relationship and there will be dry spells. TBH should be both parties thinking of new ideas to get out of the boredom state.

I agree...maybe invite a few friends over...play some cards or activities together - better to have a livelier atmosphere when you are so down.
Alternatively..there are lots of other things: instead of you cooking the usual tea as you suggest, maybe do cooking competition together....feed eachother blindfolded to see what dish the other has made (food can be fun )
What about a few hours on the old console? There are loads of 'girly' games out there that she might be interested if she isn't a keen pro-evo player. e.g puzzlebobble, brainacademy etc
Cheaper outings e.g swimming, iceskating, tennis - I find these activities more stimulating than going to cinema all the time.
Hell, you've been with her for 3 years..so you should know her interests.....maybe do something along the lines of that?

Great suggestions above, especially about the food, to take it further, take the food upstairs. Also as mentioned above doing different things is a must.

Maybe teach her to ride a bike, I did that with my Mrs and she loved it. Doing something together is essencial, money does not matter.
