In line lean for me, as my bike is well slow and if I hug off on any corner it would turn sharply into the verge lol. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

It's what you feel comfortable with, and what you do round corners.
I mean, would you hang off a Goldwing, how uncouth ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

What you also have to conside is that hanging off puts you nearer that oncomming traffic.
So if hanging if off, that last palce you want to be in near the white line or cats eyes.
Just do what feels right for you. If you are having to think about how you are going to hang off round that corner, then you are more likely to make a mistake and end up on the deck. Just go with the flow. The less you have to think about the better. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Is "hanging off" something that you learn with experience?
I have been riding 2-3 weeks and i know i'm probably no where near ready, just curious as some day i would like to be able to "hang off" |

I don't think it's as simple as either hanging off or not.
To corner effectively and safely you must shift your weight and position on the bike, even if it's too subtle for an observer to notice. Dropping the inside shoulder and just shifting one ass cheek a little is enough for almost any bend on the road unless you're really hooning it.
After this there is a scale of hanging off that goes from what I describe to this :

I tend to shift my weight more in the rain and if the road is damp. |

ive now taken to the leg out supermoto style again now that im on the klr, although i have found that im scraping the pegs
depending on my mood and the road conditions ill vary between hanging off, leg out and normal lean,
it all depends on the corner and how fast im trying to get around it and wether i want the back to slide or not,
fun times ____________________ the humans are dead

iooi: of course it'll put you further away from on-coming traffic if you're on the centre line in a left hander - and you should probaby be the other side of the road in a right hander .
leatherpatches: but he's actually not hanging much you'll notice - what with there being very little space between him and the bike.
Somewhere I've got a picture of me elbow-down on a (road) RS250, as it had dodgyish tyres I had to hang off a hell of a lot to do it and keep the bike in traction.
Clone: It's something you have to make a conscious choice to do - don't worry about it for the moment, I'd say, unless you're intending to become a track-riding god some time soon, anyway . |
