Hi mate, could be a few things, there is a little collor on the gear selector shaft which if it comes off it leaves the bike in which ever gear it was in when it fell off, that happened a few times on my old cr. How did it happen, whilst riding or just sat in neutral?, is the gear lever completly stuck or does it move but just not select?
Ive just rebuilt my yamaha yz 250's gearbox myselft, it need a new selector fork and a few cogs, i can tell you that the selctors forks are about £20-£25 each new from genuin yamaha, most likley the selector forks will be knackered, how was it to select gears when it was working?

Thanks
Jim

Hiya,
The bike is a 2000 yr...I thought I'd start on a cheaper one in case the thrill wasnt there anymore...as if !!!
The bike was running fine, then stalled it, then no gear select. The gear lever does move, but wont select.
Any advice on how I can get it sorted would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the replies. Smile

Hi mate, I think it might be worth just taking the right hand side casing off and taking a look at the actual gear selecting mechanism, like i say there is a collor on it which if it falls off it will do the same as what your bike is doing. To have a proper look you have to take the clutch basket off as it gets in the way, you do need a special tool, but if you have a air gun you can just use that, its really straight forward, Do you have a worshop manual?
Anyway im not sure how good you are with engines but when i did mine i took a picture of what it should look like, bare in mind this is a 1995 model but im sure there are probaly the same, it should all look like this, with the collor in place.
Make sure it is all pushed on to it, then just move the gear lever up and down and see if everything moves.

If all looks to be ok them im affriad you might have to split the casings and have a good look inside, its more than likley the problem will be clear, if you have all the basic tools and a windy/air gun it is really straight forward, just a case of remebering what goes where.
Anyway good look, i would deffiantly have a look at the selcter mechnism as in the photo.

Thanks
Jim
