starting zx6r (2001)

its bin sitting for a few months with the tank off and emptied, ive connected the tank, filled it with bout 5litres of fuel, charged the battery and tryed to start it up, electrics work, alarm, lights (although the right hand headlight is dead!) indicators all work, but wont kick over yet. just the dreaded solunoid click!!
wot im thinking is prehaps there is fuck all fuel in the lines/carbs and therefore it will struggle to ignite atm, also wen i turned the key the lights all came on because i forgot to turn them off as this will drain power right?!! especially wen its guna need all the power it can giv wen startin a bike thats bin dry and sitting for a while.
so ive bin pumping the throttle to try an force some fuel in the lines and now im charging the battery again, and hopefully it will be gravy 2mora?
just wonderin if anyones got any thoughts/advice

Charge the battery tonight, don't bother pumping the throttle.

Is it 'coughing' at all trying to catch?

If you have it, try the position 'pri' for prime on the fuel tap.

If it's not turning over at all then that means either the battery isn't properly charged, or the starter is fecked (unlikely). Remember that batteries can and do go bad when they've been left for a while, so you may need a new battery.

Give it a jump from a car - if she starts, take her for a good long ride. If the battery is still dead, get a new one.

And yes, try the 'prime' position if it has one, but if not it should still eventually pull fuel through on its own if you crank it over long enough.

I'd say go for bypassing the starter solanoid. That will tell you if your solanoid or your starter is dead.

Are you sure all things like sidestand switches, neutral switches etc. have been reconnected?

Nowt wrong with the sprocket moving when you blip the throttle in Neutral, it's a perfectly normal thing to happen. Nowt to worry about there.

My ZX6R is mint and isnt the best starting bike in the worl. Apparently the best and most common way to get it going is to up the throttle idle (down by your left poking up from the fairing). This doesnt seem like a great idea to me, so half choke and a small amount of throttle seem to work, which isnt ideal but hey ho.
