cam chain rattle

hi i have a 96 fireblade with 19000 miles on her. at 18000 mile i changed the cam chain tesioner for a new gen honda one. the rattles come back but only on tickover then worming up then is ok,do the chain wear on this milage or just a duff tensioner?

on my cbr i changed the cct rattle came back so i changed the chain rattle came back i got another cct rattle came back so i opened up the cct and put a stronger spring init was fine after that but that was a cbr 600 not 900

thanks for the reply,a stronger spring sounds good ,can you get them or did you just makeup your own?

ok 1st off if you do what i did and all goes tits up not my problem all im saying is what i did and worked for me

i think the spring i used was a escort front pipe spring it was an exhaust spring of some kind anyway
it fitted over the standard spring ie standard spring was inside escort spring so both springs worked
i covered 5000 miles like this with no problems and no rattles then i sold/swapped it with still no rattles
if you do try it make sure theres no whines when you start it up if there is then its too tight and you need a lesser spring
becarefull engines arnt cheap

Tensioners can go that quickly in honda's unforunately, the one in my hornet race bike is on the way out, I'm going to put a a manual one in there in the winter.

i made a maual tensioner but to be honist it did my head in have to keep adjusting them and too easy to over tighten

DONT use a spanner to adjust if you do use one just finger tight and then lock off the lock nut with a spanner
