Hi everyone, just thought I'd announce my presence, been reading through ya posts for a couple of days. Just starting to look at getting into biking (well I've been looking for a few years but just starting to seriously), so not even a CBT or provisional sorted yet Sad but I'm hoping for this Easter - trying to work out if it's best to do the CBT on my full car license and then send off for the provisional, or get the provisional first (i guess i cant do CBT while my license is in transit?)
Also, can anyone recommend the best kind of horrible crappy 4 stroke commuter to go for. I'd really love to go for an NSR but i don't think theres any chance of that - student budgeting (especially for insurance), ease of repairs and getting something which wont worry the hell out of my mum (at least at first) point in the commuter direction :p
Looking at the CM125, CB125 and i guess CG125 at the moment as possibles - other suggestions much appreciated.
Well I think I've bored you guys enough now
Cheers
Rich

Welcome aboard.

Ok on your Driving license see what provisional entitlements you have, you may already have the A category on there and as such you won't need to send off for a provisional.

Once thats sorted out you then do your CBT as they need to see your license etc.

As for a solid 125, my suggestion would be the cg125. Though there are lots of other types.

You need a provisional bike licence before you can do cbt.

I agree with Hex, if you want something cheap, easy to insure and cheap to fix, a four stroke 125 is the way to go. As long as you can put up with the looks and lack of excitement compared to the two stroke sports.

It's definitely the sensible route, but it's difficult to not want bigger, better faster, more.

Good luck.

You can get nsr's/tzr's et al for under £1000. But I guess when considering running costs and insurence a 4 stroke is quite a bit cheaper!

I would suggest a cg125 as there are so many about and many good deals to be had.

Welcome to the forum!

I did my CBT on my full car license. No problems there at all. Your best bet though is to phone the DVLA and ask them. The number is 0870 240 0009. I think you need to ask for the CBT department.

Good luck and happy riding! Thumbs Up Smile

You can do the CBT on your moped entitlement but you will have to actually ride a 50cc machine to do it. The training is more or less the same and the CBT is valid for a 125 afterwards.

It's worth doing a CBT on a proper provisional entitlement though, you will miss out on gearing and clutch control as well as having to trundle around at 30mph all day. Might not sound like you are missing out on much, but in the long run it will help you pass your test.

Very few training schools have manual 50's so you will have to learn gears and clutch on your own if you do the CBT on a moped part of your car licence.
