Filing a complaint about my GP

Ok, So we have always known our GP is shocking.
I'm not approaching this in a racist manor, But she is a paki (short for Pakistani) and she can hardly string an English sentence together.
My sister has been getting poorly over the past year, The first occasion was when she was "growing up" if you like. My mam took her to see the GP, who put her on "the pill" (ive no idea which one but I know your supposed to have your blood pressure taken etc to decided which one).

This sent my little sister into getting constant migraines, stomach cramps, and she was not right for about 3 months.

She was changed to a different pill. And since then shes been alright.

A couple of days ago she was in bed, being sick, migraines, the lot. My mam took her to the GP again who stuck her on paracetamol and said its a cold.

2 days later (today) shes still not right, She was up all night being sick. This morning I ran her down to MedDoc (local emergency doctors)who has done some tests and earlier today she was Admitted to Medway Maritime hospital with Pneumonia.

So now im worried fucking sick about my little sister.


Who is the best person to speak to about our GP, She doesn't deserve to be on doctors wages.

We took our little one (2 1/2) to see the doctor after a cough didnt clear up after 3 weeks. The doctors response was. "does she go to nursery?" to which the response was yes.

To which she replied that'll be it then and sent us on our way, a bit like going in with a broken ankle and asking if you fell. It doesnt solve the problem. She also happens to be asian. We've been to her 5 or 6 times in the last 2 years and she doesnt do fuck all.

Its a joke, My girlfriend is with a different doctors surgery, And she has to ring up on THE DAY she wants to see HER doctor. No Booking in, Just call up on the morning. If its fully booked, then tough shit, Try again tomorrow.

Its disgusting.

Makes you wonder where all our tax and NI is actually going. Because its not improving the NHS.

Binge, if it makes it any better, I had EXACTLY the same with my daughter when she was 5. Although obviously she was never put on the pill.

7 consecutive days visiting the doctors, 5 different doctors, 2 of which were emergency visits in the middle of the night as she was so bad. And STILL every time we went it was just brushed aside as a chest infection, flu etc....

After shouting at the doctors they finally refered us to the hospital where she had an xray and was diagnised with Pneumonia!

A 5 year old having to put up with this for over a week!!! It wasn't nice to see, let alone know what she was going through!!

We dont use any of those doc's any more! Tossers!

This happened to my mates daughter the other week.

He didn't wait to be referred to hospital, as soon as the first doc fobbed him off he took her straight there and now she is sorted.

You don't need a referral to go to A&E.

The E stands for emergency, it doesn't have to just be an accident.

Definitely make a complaint, as not all GP Practices and Hospitals are like that, so it doesn't have to be that way.

Bournemouth Hospital can be a bit sketchy, but Poole Hospital is excellent and my GP Practice is really very good.

Big up the NHS in Hants and Dorset - now I've got a bike I need you on my side!

Pneumonia is really nasty, so I hope your sis gets better soon.

Still dosnt sounds half as bad as my GP, They dont phone you back when its an emergancy. They loose urine samples, 4 times (never made it to the lab) . Dont make you hospital appointments when they said so. Took my doc 7 weeks to actually make the apointment and i had to call her several times to ask was it done and was in constant contact with the hospital as this has happened before. Told my neck problem which caused migrains was me being a hypocondraic when I had whiplash that was untreated and missed regardless of weekly phone calls in pain. Xray pfft that was hell trying to get a referal for.

Anyway I was told you had to write your complaint first to the doctor then take it to the NHS by a solicator. I havnt done it yet I just torture them instead and they move when I say so now.

You can also change docs only that seems to be hard in some areas, like mine you arnt allowed for some reason, its called "policy" aparently.

My experience with doctors is the just fob you off...
I've been experiencing muscle tension problem for a few years now, 2 of my regular GP's have told me it is normal or "see how it goes".
Lastly I was given a course of 'Ecoxolac' (Etodalac) Medication and a two week body weight circuit to improve flexibilty,
I found it extremely hard to find the time to complete the circuit for two weeks straight and even after I did it did'nt really help matters.
On Tuesday I sustained a neck injury as a result of this tension and I'm now waiting for my prefered GP to return from holiday.
I would like to see a Kyropracticioner but I realise the poxy NHS probably won't fund this

FFS This is an important health issue, It is effecting my and impairing my ability to prepare for the RM...
It's about time they started to take my health fucking seriously as it's important to me.

GPs really are, utter shit.

I have had 3 locally for various problems from minor to very serious and they have all been absolutely bollocks.

Go to hospital, overact what is going on with your sis so it looks like shes dying (I know, I'm a bastard but it's the only way to get any decent care) and they will have her layed up in a bed with someone who actually has a clue what they're doing to look after her/sort her out. At least here, you can't rely on a GP for shit all. When I had my burn on my hand he gave me the wrong prescription stuff which made it take longer to heal and it looks alot more gory thanks to putting that stuff on

Make a complaint about a GP and expect to be struck off from their list.

Don't expect anyone in the health authority / care trust to take any notice of this.

The GPs are a law unto themselves.

I write from experience.

The reason is the GPs are effectively contracted to the government. The care trusts just rent out their services. So they need to keep them sweet and brush any complaint under the carpet.

New plan from my father,

a) Complaint to practice manager. Should be acknowledged within 48 hours and responded to within 14 days.
b) If response is not acceptable, you can report them directly to your local PCT and you will be advised on how to take further action.

Personally never had a problem with GP's here in Barnsley or in my home town of Exeter. Seen right away and always very thorough. Sad to hear you're having a shit time with it and hope you get resolve soon

Like most other things in the NHS, GPs are a lottery. Most prescriptions are decided upon by what "bonus" the drug company gives the doctor for promoting their drugs. My ex in-laws were both GPs and i saw the free Golfing weekends and bottles of Champagne that they were "gifted" from the Drug companies. How often do they tell you the side effects of taking certain drugs? I allways have to ask. I'd imagine a good percentage of them are freemasons too. still, what yer gonna do

Hmm... went to the GP with my girlfriend when we suspected she was pregnant (had missed periods, morning sickness, weeing a lot, positive test etc)... The doctor said she's definitely not pregnant, she's missing the period because of stress, we don't know what we're talking about bla bla.... Quite rude and brash....

She was pregnant and we have an 13 month old son to prove it now.

It's true, they're not all bad. I had a great doctor once that realy took time to help me convaless after a bad accident - he was a biker too. Eventualy, he went to live in New Zealand like the realy good dentist I had once too

There's an awful lot of information you can look at and use to help you choose a GP practice, there are also going to be further moves to make this information much more easily available too.

Whilst I don't think the measures that are used are sufficiently developed yet, it's better than nothing. The information we're using is pretty good but anonymous at the moment - that will be changing and people will be able to see ranked charts and control charts for practices showing outliers for things like referring, completion of minor surgery within the practice etc.

Things you can look at which will hopefully mean you end up at a better surgery are:
Whether it's a teaching practice
If any of the partners are members of the PCT Professional Executive Committee (PEC - look at the PCT website and check members)
Check the PCT website for any alerts or updates about different practices - we've had one about one particular practice who left a vaccines fridge open alerting any patients who may have had vaccines there to contact us <- that would be one to avoid!
Check how many doctors there are, try to avoid husband and wife run practices (look for Dr J and Dr J) and single handed practices unless you know the GP well.

Finally - go and visit before you register. Talk to the receptionist - if they seem pretty clued up and know about things like choose and book, any GP special interests etc then it's probably a reasonably good practice.

i hate my doctors. i ring up for an appointment the last one being i was having immense pains in my kidneys. couldnt sleep and couldnt really do anything because it was crippling pain.

so i ring up for an appointment and cant get one. and then she asks whats up with me and am sorry but am not up for telling some glorified pen pusher whats up with me and i think i shouldnt have to either its private between me and my GP

and i understand why they would ask i can totally imagine that people would turn up with a sniffle and waste the GP's time etc etc

anyway all my GP's are now foreign who dont understand english properly let alone the way i talk (am from sunderland and have a really thick accent) i have only ever had one good Doctor but she was swapped with another one for some reason

My GP surgery is crap too. If you ring up for an appointment (which i dont do unless I am really ill as I hate doctors/dentists etc anyway) the woman on the phone first of asks what wrong. And she wants details I dont just mean I am not feeling well its my ear or what ever she wants every details. Then she tells you oh i have an appointment a week on Wednesday! WTF i am not waiting a week to see a doctor. Then she tells me to go the walk in centre which is also crap and I told her this. Then she says how about tonight at 3pm - result! My god what a joke.

The best one was when I had had an xray on my knee I rang to make an appointment to see the doctor to discuss the results, same woman from above

Its just stupid! Next time she asks me what wrong when I ring up I am telling her my fanny flap has fell off she what she says then the stupid cow.

By the time we usually get an appointment at our GP you feel much better as it was over a week ago you rang up!

Mental! I would rather pay for private medial insurance and scrap the nhs. Seen as I pay a fortune in tax and NI per month anyway!
