Hi,
I have been riding my ped all day today, reaching speeds of well over 50mph quite frequently. The thing is I was partly on my way through a 15 mile round trip when I went down this hill and clocked about 60 mph...The hill then levelled out and my speed dropped drastically to around 30/35 mph....It felt as if the bike was bogging out and the bike would not respond to all the throttle I was giving it....I pulled into the side for around 30 secs, revving the bike then set off and it was right as rain...I could have cruised all day at 40mph but as soon as I went over 50, it would slow to 35 and bog out....I recently had a Malossi Variator put in (well 24 hours prior to this) but it has been running fine for around 4 hours prior to this. Also there was a strange ringing/Howling/Whistling noise coming from I think my clutch...What is this??

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what happend to my ped? Or was it just sheer over-heating??

Thanks in advance

Overheating? It's just a stab in the dark though.

Is it air or liquid cooled.

When you go really fast down hills are the revs gradually increasing?

Pop the air box off and the air intake off. Two 8 mm bolts hold the carb on, undo them. Unscrew the float bowl which is held on by 2 screws. Undo the main jet (the large one in the middle) and have a look for a number on it. It should be 74, if it isn't you need to buy one Thumbs Up

It sounds like it may be the drivebelt?

When you say it 'bogs', does the engine bog at all, or does it just slow down for no real reason?

Is it a 50cc?

They seem to be about £20 on Ebay so as long as you fit it yourself it won't be expensive.

Thumbs Up

Hiya, I went out on it today, did about 5 mile on it, reaching over 50mph on three or four occasions - it was fine...Then after ten minutes i went over 50mph again and the bike bogged down again Sad

I dont think it is the plug as i fitted an iridium sparkplug in about 4 weeks ago, It feels as though the engine is being choked/ or the exhasut is being choked (Thats what it feels like anyway)

When i initially installed the malossi variator it was ok for a day or two, then this one time it just bogged out when i hit 50

Oh, yeah its 50cc

Point of checking the plug is to see whether it is a nice biscuit brown (jetting about right), black and messy (running rich) or blistered and white (running lean, with the piston probably about to seize).

All the best

Hi

White blistered plug is a sign of running way too lean. You need to richen the mixture up. Main jet only affects very large throttle openings, and you replace it with a larger one. For mid range you need to adjust the position of the needle or change to a different needle.

All the best

Keith

Just trying to discount certain things Question
Thanks again

Hi

To be honest I have next to no experience of scooter transmissions (going for the clutch and locking the back wheel isn't fun), but I would doubt it.

All the best

Keith

I am afraid that's what you need to expect when you de-restrict a engine.

But don't panic till you check your plug. Or best to try a new one, don't bother with iridium though unless you like throwing your money away.
