I've often ogled at Ducatis. The sound, the look, etc. And obviously one day (when the credit crunch is over) I will just have to own one. Which one is the best though?

I'm talking:

Looks
Sound
Performance
Value for money

I'm not specifying a budget, just which is better overall in your opinion and why

The best one is the one that doesn't have a BAB/WW wobbling around on it, they're rare.

I LOVE, the 888, pure classic!

But having a 916 (pic in profile), I'm going to have to vote for that Wink

Thumbs Up

None of the above... instead:

Ducati 748 - in the yellow. It was designed with that yellow in mind.

Ducati 620 Monster Dark - this is what motorbikes should be. All dark and brooding, light enough to be responsive and small enough to be thrashed in a public place. That's what we like...

Hi

Personally the 888 (or 851) and the 999. The other 8 valve ones were more styled than engineered (eg, single sided swinging arms).

All the best

Keith

I voted for the 1098 but only because the 748 isn't there Very Happy Suppose its the same as the 916 though.

Come on Keith!

I understand that Ducati have proven their engineering capabilities and that there is substance behind the looks.

But TBH I would want a 1098 or 916 even if they had 60hp and handled like a TLS!

haha Wink

Mmm, and when the 916 came out at least one race team used the 916 engine in an old 888 chassis for doing some testing and found it was quicker than a proper 916.

Afraid the 916 is a triumph of styling over engineering.

999 may not be good looking, but it was a bike engineered to be very good.

All the best

Keith

What???? Are you sure about that Keith?

Didn't the 916 run the show in WSB?

I've always thought the 999 would be incredible to ride, but the journos rate the 1098 as better in almost every way. And plus its a cracking looking bike IMO.

Which is best value - has to be the 999.

It did, and needed a larger engine to do so than the 888 did when it had been running the show in WSB.

All the best

Keith

916/1098 i think the 916 looks amazing and i do like the new 1098 but too much money for a bike imho.

Had a shot of a 748, like the feel of the bike but its far too small for me, you will never get a cold arse in winter with the pipes directly below your seat (sweaty arse syndrom).

I'd rather have a tricked up Monster, or a classic desmo than anything on that list.

916 is the iconic shape for me. Wouldn't own one though.

I saw a mint '57 plate 1098 get dropped by it's owner in Rye Cafe carpark a few weeks ago. If you own one please be aware that they can be started in gear and on the sidestand...

Ah, that Ducati 'character'... Wink

To put a spanner in the works, I'd certainly consider one of the new monsters.
