hi
i set off to college this morning in the super storm and my bike broke down i was sat at the side of the dual carriage way for 2 hours before i could get it going again. when i got it home i pulled apart the engine and there the problem was. water had somehow got into the engine and caused a major carbon build up around the plug. not on the plug or anywhere else. anyways, cleaned up the entire engine and it runs like a dream anyone ever heard of this problem before on the nsr and what causes it
cheers. ____________________ One day i will rule the world, just not today. |

As anyone educated to GCSE level for Chemistry will tell you, you cannot get carbon from water. ____________________ Yamaha TDM 850 |

Carbonic acid is a form of acid rain (I think), caused by excess build up of CO2 in the atmosphere. If water seeps into the engine around the plug (plug not tight enough mabe, but then again you'd have bad compression ) I think that with the water turning into steam and reacting with the other vapors from the petrol you get the acid rain effect in your engine. Therefore carbonic acid and then carbon deposits. Now I quit college after my first year and really struggled to remember that so if it's wrong I'll gladly step back. But if it's right... I'll be amazed . ____________________ If I Die... I Die! |

If it was Carbonic Acid then it would react with the metal, not form carbon deposits. The carbon deposits are formed through incomplete combustion when there is not enough air to allow the mixture to burn properly. Besides, the strength of the Carbonic Acid is nowhere near enough to make any difference to an engine. ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm.
