hi
i set off to college this morning in the super storm and my bike broke down Thumbs Down i was sat at the side of the dual carriage way for 2 hours before i could get it going again. when i got it home i pulled apart the engine and there the problem was. water had somehow got into the engine and caused a major carbon build up around the plug. not on the plug or anywhere else. anyways, cleaned up the entire engine and it runs like a dream Very Happy anyone ever heard of this problem before on the nsr and what causes it

cheers.

I'm guessing, from the rest of your post, that it's water getting into the engine and causing carbon build up around the plug. Thumbs Up

I'm really really sorry, but am in that sort of mood and just couldn't resist it. You left yourself way open there baldy! Wink Laughing

As anyone educated to GCSE level for Chemistry will tell you, you cannot get carbon from water. Smile

I'm just a bit confused by this statement. Where exactly was the carbon then? If water was indeed in the engine then I would think that it was getting in through the air filter/air box. Other than that, I would suggest that you check your head gasket as that is another possibility for water being in the cylinder.

Check your air filter and box first though, as that is easier. Thumbs Up Smile

Carbonic acid is a form of acid rain (I think), caused by excess build up of CO2 in the atmosphere. If water seeps into the engine around the plug (plug not tight enough mabe, but then again you'd have bad compression Confused ) I think that with the water turning into steam and reacting with the other vapors from the petrol you get the acid rain effect in your engine. Therefore carbonic acid and then carbon deposits. Now I quit college after my first year and really struggled to remember that so if it's wrong I'll gladly step back. But if it's right... I'll be amazed Very Happy .

If it was Carbonic Acid then it would react with the metal, not form carbon deposits. The carbon deposits are formed through incomplete combustion when there is not enough air to allow the mixture to burn properly. Besides, the strength of the Carbonic Acid is nowhere near enough to make any difference to an engine. Thumbs Up Karma

Just sounds like you flooded it. i've been led to belive it's common on the nsr, happens to me about once a month, specially if its cold. I take a 6 MM allen key, spark plug tool and a wire brush whenever i go out on it now.

Gets it going again in 5 minutes.

You should be a bit more careful what you say in future because your posts will get hammered. Think its because of the rain making people a bit cranky
