Taken a couple of jets out of my carb today as I need to up-jet for my exhaust on the RX-S.

In my Haynes manual it says the main jet is a 120 and I have a jet that says 120 on it but I also have what seems to be a jet (might not be) that says 612.0 on it.

What is this? Pictures are attached Thumbs Up

Karma for replies.

EDIT: Am I right in thinking that what I think is a 6 and 1 is actually a little symbol of who produced the jet?

I would still like to know what it's for and why it seems so big though.

the haynes manual is for using stock everything.

you dont have a stock exhaust.

meaning you probably need to go up a size of jet.

Yes I know this, that is why the jets are out. I was correct in thinking that the previous owner did not re-jet the bike once the exhaust was fitted. It is also the most likely cause of my poor performance above 7,000rpm.

What I want to know is what the other very large looking jet is for?

How many sizes would you go up or is it just a case of trial and error? I was going to go up 5 first and work from there.

this might help
https://www.siue.edu/~rsutton/SR/carbbot1.jpg

if you have the same jets as stated in the haynes manual, then definatly upjet it, as it could be running lean which can work out pretty badly on a 2 stroke.

not a clue what size to use, so someone else can step in with that one.

You daft Jew! The big "jet" is the seat the float needle sits in and doesn't need changing. The other one is indeed your main jet.

Thanks BLUEX5 Thumbs Up Karma

Thanks Matt for the diagram Thumbs Up Karma

Now the challenge is sourcing a jet as the websites I've been on don't seem to have this one.

Any ideas?

Where I work only order them in 5s. At about £7 a go that's expensive.

I'm going to the old shop tomorrow as they said they have a stash of lots of old jets so I should be able to find one Thumbs Up

The 'needle jet pipe' in your drawing is called the emulsion tube. Not all carbs have the emulsion tube holding the main jet, but that one does by the looks of it.

Borrowed a box of Mikuni carb jets from work today. The smallest one that was above a 120 was a 140. I fitted this but now it 4 strokes at 7,000rpm. Going to have to buy a 130 now Sad

Had a complete panic moment though. When I took the carb apart I didn't use the manual because I'm stupid and thought it can't be that hard. I did not realise there was a float needle valve. Looked at my Haynes manual to rebuild it and it said Do not lose the float needle valve!.

I just went into a complete 'You fucking idiot' mode (sort of like crying without tears Laughing). After a bit of running around I went back to my carb to just look at the thing I had ruined. I look underneath the carb and spotted a small metal needle stuck under the gearbox breather pipe. I ran to my dad shouting 'I've found the needle' Laughing Panic over Embarassed

I won't do that ever again.

Yeah. It's got a picture of the guy taking it out and that as the caption. Once I read that I just felt so empty in side.

That's why when I rebuilt the carb it pissed fuel out all over my drive Rolling Eyes Laughing

Such a foolish mistake.
