Hi,

Just been looking at the oil levels on my NSR and noticed that when the bike is started it shows that there is no oil in it, but when it is stopped it reads full. Which one should i take notice of as it really needs a oil change. Any help would be good Very Happy

Cheers.

When it's running the oil is going all round the engine. When you stop the engine, it sits in the sump.

Measure the oil level when the engine off.

Cheers.
Oh yeah also i have a problem with the powervalve cable thingys (i think). When the engine revs to about 4k the cable sticks and then slaps shut. Also when you turn the bike on it makes a sound like a baby crying and then the cable snaps shut. The time it takes to do this varies all the time but it is really anoying me. It makes the bike sound like a tank Exclamation I have put it down to the servo cable with the sprig on it sticking. Any help would be useful Thumbs Up

This happened to my NSR, i think the problem was that the powervalve was coked up, so wouldn't allow it to open fully or something. Thus the wires stick. Showed it to my Honda dealer and got it done under warranty.

From the description, it could only be gearbox oil he's talking about. Either that, or something is really fucked Laughing .

Thanks for the help. I was talking about the gearbox oil, and do i have to take apart the cylinder to get the powervalve out? It is all covered in a black sludgy substance. Maybe this is the problem?

Cheers Thumbs Up

No, you should be able to get it out with the engine in the frame. Just remove the dust seal and pull the shaft and the two valve things out Smile

Hmm, found the problem. powervalve was stuck to the block with carbon. Took a lot of tugging to get them out. Also fixed the servo cable, it was frayed on the end and had jammed up. Only problem now is that I have to set it all up again....

Any hints or tips would be VERY helpful.
Cheers Very Happy Thumbs Up

Can I just say...

On most bikes the oil light comes on when you start the bike to demonstrate that the bulb is not blown.

Also, the NSR doesn't have a sump afaik and the oil light relates to the 2-s oil not the gearbox oil.

The oil should be reasonably well circulated in the 'box pretty much all of the time.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

True but not so on the NSR. If the light is blinking/illuminated on start-up then that's not normal.
