Adding to the list so far. This time the bike now starts perfectly but when you put it in first it jerks forward and the engine cuts out then the bike will not even start when you hold in the clutch. It now does not even find neutral! Can someone please help me because it's my first bike which i haven't even ridden yet!

is your sidestand down?

if not, check your sidestand cutout switch.

bike gearboxes dont like being used when the bike isnt moving, so try rocking the bike back and forth when searching for neutral.

When you say it won't start with the clutch in after putting it in gear - does it not turn over at all? Or turn over slowly?

You can only hear the starter motor when you try and hold the clutch in and start it. The sidestand cut off switch has been cut by the previous owner. The gear lever is now also very stiff.

if he cut it off, did he short the 2 ends? you need to in order to bypass the switch.

find where he cut it off, tie the 2 ends of wire together and see if it works then.

is the clutch cable intact? sounds like its either loose or snapped. follow the cable to the engine and see if it pulls the lever.
fairly cheap to buy and easy to replace.
if not your side stand switch probably needs replacing.
with it being your first bike and all you may leave it down once in a while, and the switch can save you from finding out round a corner as it throws you off!
its also a cheap part and can be fitted fairly easily.
hope this helps

The side stand flips up as soon as you lift the bike so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for the info anyways i'll try it all out tomorrow. I'm sooo close to selling this bike!
