Yeah just pop by B&Q and pick up five 6mm washers, place them in the seat compartment and hey presto! 'Yes it's restricted officer' Laughing

Well I'm just having a look for you now, but I found this:

We have a FIC restriction certificate and all that says on it is:
Restriction Device: Exhaust Restriction
Device Code 05-2YL-K25

Device Details And Dimensions
Outer Diameter 1 = To Fit Exhaust
Outer Diameter 2 = To Fit Exhaust
Inner Diameter = 16.5mm

Which doesn't tell you much, except that two washers with inner diameters or 16.5mm and placed in the exhaust. If it comes to it you might have to take it off to measure the outer diameter.

https://www.vsoc.org.uk/vsoc_faqs/vsoc_faqs.htm#restrictionkit

Found that info under the answers, but I didn't see any instructions.
They(FI) tend to keep it hushed up so they can charge extortionate amounts for a couple of washers. Evil or Very Mad

i know, i rung up a Yamaha dealer and he wanted £130 =[

so i will probably end up just making the washers my self when i get the right size, might make them a tad bigger for more power =]

If your going to do that you may aswell not have them in at all,

35bhp is just as illegal as 46bhp...

Just to let every body know

I have just rung up the DVLA and they have told me, i am under no legal obligation to have a certificate to prove that i have a restrictor kit in my motorcycle, all i need to do is have the restrictor kit in, and if the police suspect i don't have one they will just test the bike to see if it is restricted.

So DON'T spend £130-£150 on a restrictor with a certificate because you don't need one, all you need is the restrictor kit, and i will post as soon as i find a place which just sell the restrictor kit, so saving every one money,
as far as i know to restrict a XV535 its just two washers in the exhaust (thanks to tzr Thumbs Up )

Thanks
Chrisdd
(PS Please Post if you know the correct sizes of the washers or if you know a place which just sells the restrictor kit)

I think the 33bhp limit is at the crank tbh if it was at the rear wheel you could just set your back brake to drag a fair bit on a dyno to reduce the power thats recorded.

I was told the virago restrictors fitted in the diaphragm slide to stop the carbs opening fully Confused Confused

If as the dvla state the bike just needs to be restricted to comply with a restricted licence then surely you could just limit throttle movement so that you bike won't reach the part of the rev range that develops over 33 bhp, that way all you need is dyno chart for your model bike (assuming yours is stock)and set the throttle according to that.

im thinking more along the lines of a throttle limiter or wide open throttle stop something like the adjustable ones you get on kids quad bikes so that you can adjust it stopping the bike revving as high as it normaly would,

Normal restrictor kits can cause fueling problems (not so much vacuum carbs) a throttle restrictor would stop that.

Might be worth getting your bike on a dyno to see what it really makes first.

They aren't going to take the bike apart, so the rear brake trick would still work as they work out the crank figure by guesswork.

Its not so much guess work as an accepted percentage of drag from driveline and gearbox etc, but even that can vary from different model rolling roads and conditoins of your chain and sprockets etc.

Thank you for all your replies i think i will just put it on a dyno (dont really know what it is) and find out what it still produces, my bike is 18 years old =/ older than me =]

A dyno or rolling road is a machine that your bike is strapped to that measures the torque and bhp that your bike produces the back wheel sits on rollers and the operator will run your bike at varied throttle positions in all the gears, they can be used in conjuction with exhaust gas analysers to so that the operator can correct the bikes fueling and maximise power output.

There are places that advertise in the bike trade, go get yourself a copy and see if there are any places near you.
