What does it matter if the Jap stuff was shit when it came out? It brilliant now.
The Chinkie stuff is wank, no 2 ways about it. Yeah they might get better and start making good bikes, good for them but at the moment they are crap. I'm not gonna buy a chinkie bike because the manufactures might be good in 10/20 years time. The bikes are frankly dangerous and if you don't believe me have a word with Mattspratt, the frame on his Lifan snapped . I don't think that was more than a couple of years old. Judging by pictures he isn't exactly American in size, either.
It's cheap and it's poor, and 95% of people would rather have a £500 20 year old jap bike than a £1000 brand new Chinkie one. I know what would last longer too. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

No one is disputing that Pete, but thats another day a fair way away yet.
It took the Japanese machinery 20 years to climb to the top of the heap, and the Koreans about the same so my money is on the Chinese producing solid machinery in around fifteen years, until then the only Chinese bike I would be tempted by is the Chang-Jiang

Good luck with your forum, nice to see an enthusiast put a bit of time into their interests.
Unfortunately as always a forum will be the place for keyboard heroes etc. Certainly a chinese bike wouldn't be for me at the moment but cheap prices always rule and they'll always sell regardless of the name or quality. You get good stuff from China but you get sh!t also.
As always you gets what you pays for. |

I'm someone who gets very annoyed with every single one of your posts. Not least for the fact that you post every new sentence on a new line. Everything I've read in the last few days that you've written I have disagreed with. That might be because of your superior knowledge... or it might be because of mine. |
Hi, it is good to disagree as this creates active and interesting discussions, it is nothing to get annoyed about or worthy of criticism.
My writing punctuation isn't perfect, and neither is this.
But thanks for the compliment about my superior knowledge, I will give you good karma sometime. |
This, my friend, has now become a non interesting discussion. I agree, your posts are rapidly becomeing annoying and most of the ones I've read from you are getting worse...

If you believe Llexeter they claim sales of 6,800 bikes this year to August 08, if that continues it would equate to about 4-5% of all new bike registrations (approx based on figures from the net) in 2008. Then include all the other wierd and wonderful makes out there and you could quite reasonably double that %.
Thats a hell of a lot of chinese bikes on the road.
 |
LLexter aren't doing very good for themselves now, their sales are going down according to companies who have stopped buying from them (I went and asked, see previous post). |

Well, since you asked, and since there's nothing like a bit of inter-forum bitching, here goes:
Craig (Wibbla) got all upset on Swift Owners forum because people disagreed with him and dared to voice their own opinion (is this sounding familiar already??)
Craig wrote a hissy post about how he was leaving the forum, and how it would fail without him 'steering the ship' so to speak.
Once the forum didn't fail, Craig allegedly threatened to 'bring the forum down' with his 'l33t haxxoring skillz' (oh noes!!11!). IIRC, this mostly consisted of using as proxy server to hide his (now blocked) ip address. L33t stuff, i know.
Craig then begged to be let back on the forum, and was allowed back, on his best behaviour.
When i pointed out that i was surprised Craig had returned (given his monumentally infantile paddy-whack prior to leaving and subsequent alleged threats/l33t haxxoring), he threatened to 'come and shove my head up my arse'.
I then offered him numerous chances to make good on his threat, all of which he declined with his usual backsliding.
Aaaaah, the t'interweb, don't you just love it?!?

Because of that. Its amazing what people forget about quality and safety when they see something new for a fraction of the price they would have expected to see.
You will never change that for some people and its those "some" people that will keep llexter and others importing these bikes.
Yes a lot of dealers are refusing to stock the bikes now however the amount of ebay and online businesses will ensure they keep getting out there.
A dealership with llexeter does not mean you need to buy stock, simply sell a bike online and they will arrange for it be delivered, its really drop shipping so there is no risk to those selling. ____________________ Current - 2007 Suzuki Bandit GSF1250 - 1999 Suzuki TL1000R

Point taken that there are good examples coming through, but there is an awful lot of shite coming through too as well and it seems to be entirely random as too which one you get.
My best friends folks had an FSO when we young, for those too young to remember it was an Eastern European motor which was not known for its reliability or resistant to rust - however they had that motor for years.
My CeeGee had more than 54,000 miles averaging 110mpg before it was stolen - all of its problems had been caused by human intervention. ____________________ Kal...

I thought I would leave this alone but I had good old chuckle today regarding this topic. A mechanic I've been going to a little while started selling Chinese bikes a while ago. He's not impressed with them, but manages to sell a few on the side, mainly peds to kids. And it gives him a little extra cash over just recovery/repair.
Any way, today I had my bike down there, to have a little work done. When I came back at the end of the day to pick it up, it was parked next to a Chinese cruiser. We got chatting about my bike, and how I'm planning to sell it. He began complementing the condition of my bike, having no rust and very little tarnishing. Then looked at the two year old Chinese cruiser next to it and said "They don't make um like they used to, this bike is rusting all all over the place" pointing to the cruiser. And told me a few of the common faults with them.
My bike is a 27 (1981) year old Honda CB250N. A 27 year old bike should never be in better operating and cosmetic condition than a two year old, road legal bike, of any origin. ____________________ ZX6R C6F.

They've become a bit of a collectors item.
My misses would kill me if I brought another bike home though, especally if it wasn't T&T'd. ____________________ Kal...
